Similar Massey Ferguson (spelling?) I have driven at my grand mother's place, Clutch was heavy and brakes specially, or can we say brakes as it really did not much braking even I did stand on brake pedal with both feets and pulling from steering wheel to get extra pressure, still engine braking was stronger
But I don't like to compare tracktors to cars, even Volvo is associated to tracktor by some silly ppl

Open the bonnet and look down the bulkhead on the driver side to spot the steering shaft, you're looking for a nasty looking rubber disc half way down. It will have the centre partly sheared away from the outer disc. Easy fix, especially if you have skinny arms. If you're built like Popeye then get Olive to do it
I had a look and mine's got a nice split running through it. Went to the Volvo dealer and we were both surprised when he actually had one on the shelf. Only £11.80 too. Then I got a genuine air filter for £6 because he had one and wanted to get rid. Bonus!

I'm closer to the Olive end of things but I just couldn't work out how to get the thing off as the column was turning and every time I tried to undo the nuts the rubber just tore apart. So I took it to the garage at the end of the road and got Popeye there to do it for £25. Much less aggro and I don't have to guess when the car's going to start turning any more
