Green fuel discussion

I think this is the thing that will be biggest subject during next 5 years, we have seen how fuel prices go up fast and down slow everytime when something, practically anything, is happening in coutries that are somehow affecting oil business or countries that are just near them.

In UK LPG is quite widely available?
We don't have that option in here and there is people that can't afford costs converting a car.

What options are for LPG, at least Ethanol is one that is gaining more and more attention, but maybe even more interesting one is Vegetable oils.

Funny thing I did found out is that it is possible to use these to just more than a fuel, you can use biodiesel as fuel addittive and also instead of 2 stroke oil.

I would be very interested to get fuel that I could make myself and use it in moped or similar small engine to get very cheap transportation around city and with relatively small expenses
Of course our goverment is not supporting these fuels, instead you get ticket if police finds out you are using something else than pump gas or diesel, but that has not stopped revolution before

I can help with the LPG questions!

As my boyfriend work with a company that sells LPG kits I know a lot! It didnt cost me much to convert but it does depend if ur car is injection or carb for the system your car will be best suited to. Mine is a 2 litre and has the Millenium system on it, with the millenium I can hook my car to the laptop and find out how my car is running on LPG and modify some of the problems with the aid of lambda probe!

For a conversion on a 300 this is how much the equipment will cost:

For a carb car with a cylinder tank would cost £450
For the same but a spare wheel replacement tank that would cost £530

For the injection car with a cylinder tank would cost £500
For the same but a spare wheel replacement tank would cost £580

To put a Millenium lambda controlled system with cylinder tank would be £555 (you would have to supply ur own lamda sensor)

or

to put the same system with a spare wheel replacement tank would cost
£685 (own supply of lamda sensor)

These days LPG varies from station to station but on average its between 36p and 47p per litre - mostly 44.9-46.9p.
I have 2 tanks on mine and I get roughly 400 miles and only costs me £37 pounds on average!
You will get the money you paid for your gas system back in about 12 months as you are saving money in the long run!
By the way you can buy DIY kits for the LPG which are supplied with fitting instructions and technical support help if u should need it or you can get them installed by professional qualified installers which will cost a bit more but for peace of mind im sure you wont mind the extra!

Hmmm, that could prove to be VERY interesting...

My girlfriend and I are moving to Canada for a year in July, and when we come back to the UK, I plan to bring with me whatever car we will have been driving out there. (my main passion has always been for American cars, I'm afraid!)

My plan was to go for a gas conversion, for environmental and economical benifit, so I can use it as a daily driver.

If you/Dai feel like some heroic factfinding action:
Does the price you mentioned vary much for bigger vehicles? I haven't entirely decided what to go for yet, but I'm thinking about a late 80s Chevrolet Blazer. It would have a carb V8 and most likely be the 350ci (5.7 litre) smallblock. Might end up being something else but it would be a similar age or older and have a similar engine.

What sizes do the tanks come in, and what sort of price difference?

Some of the guys from the American car clubs I've spoken to said it cost them about £1000 on similar pickup trucks. I've also heard that some insurance companies don't want anything to do with DIY fit kits, and they insist on a certificate from an authorised installer.

Finally, what are people's thoughts on the price of LPG in the near future? Reckon it'll stay low, or as more people use it will the government see an oppertunity to make a few more quid in tax?

Any thoughts/advice would be fully appreciated.

There is basicly two things why I'm not ready to jump to LPG wagon.

1st LPG is not available here.

2nd It is still same way dependant from big oil companies (or gas?) and also it is not possible to produce locally.

Vegetable oil type fuel is making lot of new jobs, every contry can produce plants and these plants will handle all CO that is released when oil is burned that has taken from plants, so it is zero CO solution also.

Best thing is that no matter what political crisis come price is not changing.

It is possible to use this type of oil to warm houses too.

Also it is not toxic, it is not causing anything if it leaks, etc.

Currently we are living in a world where power is in few big company/contry, those who have control to oil have control to everything, I would like to see this power to disappear and if every contry is independed from oil, then it is possible.
We really don't need oil today, there is replacement available
