Well tbh I think the Volvo had already set me up for some nice sideways moments as the S13 was an absolute piece of p*ss in comparison! Now i'm being tempted to the dark side but they were constantly overheating all day and they're not *that* easy to work on so I think i'll stick with the Volvo's
Been speaking with my dad about it and I might end up getting another car for everyday use and then keep the 360 for drifting as the S13 with the welded diff was worse than I thought, made a lot of loud tyre skipping noise when moving it about! One thing I really need though is power steering, i'm pretty sure without it in a 360 it would be too much of a struggle so thats my next step! Then i'll make a decision from there about whether to make it an all out drifter or not, if I do I think i'd only need to weld the diff and fit a hydraulic handbrake anyway.
The cars were two S13s, one had a welded diff and other than that was totally standard other than a cheapo bucket seat that made it so high my head was hitting the roof! The other had full exhaust, stainless manifold, induction kit and MBC so not sure what boost it was running but was still on the viscous diff. The handbrakes are also bloody awesome in those things! The one with the welded diff tended to spin out a little easier but once you got used to it you could control it so much easier. The viscous required keeping your foot welded to the floor and clutch kicking constantly to get anywhere but was really satisfying. Kept nearly falling out of the bloody window though with the standard seat! Its actually a lot more violent than I though it would be, i've pulled so many muscles lol.
They asked what drifting we've done before so I had the old half turn of countersteer and so instead of making me do dohnuts he had me yanking the handbrake at about 50mph going in, he said you've just got to act like a complete idiot and it works lol. Once its gone flying sideways you just get back on the throttle and adjust the steering and throttle to keep it going sideways. After two 10min sessions I could nail the end corners so its not hard to be able to do a bit but then its a BIG step up to actually be smooth and any good lol. Managed to link up the figure of 8 after practising all afternoon but its too easy to overcook it when you're not used to having so much power! I have to say I actually think playing computer games, mainly live for speed, helped an awful lot. I found myself doing things automatically like yanking the handbrake to drag out the drift if I was coming into the apex too quickly.
Bloody good day and now I just need to get a car prepared and get out to practise days!
