i have enquired on here before about the engines that go into 340's 360's etc, and i was told that the 340's take renault engines??? therefore i was wondering if the 1.4 340 would be able to take parts from a 1.4 renault??? you can probably guess where i'm going with this but was wondering if it is possible to adapt the R5 turbo exhaust manifold to the 340 head, on this subject if the stardard items are interchangable is it possible for upgraded items interchangable? any help would be greatly appriciated as i would like to try the R5 GGT manifold on a 340, with a few other choice modifications...also i was wondering where the best place is to go for lowering springs as i search a few places including ebay and they don't seem to readyily available.

Yes, the B14 engine in the 340 is the same basic block as the R5 GTT engine. It's been talked about before- but without spending a fair old whack, however tuneable the R5 GTT engine is, it's not going to give huge performance in a 300.
When theres 1.7 turbo out of the 440, 1.8 16v out of the R19, 2.0/2.3 Volvo turbo engines (for 360 use) there seems little point in going the 1.4 turbo route. Since I believe the compression ratio is lowered on the GTT with using different pistons. Ali has put some consideration in this concept, so he should be able to give some more answers.
classicswede here will supply you with lowering springs/blocks at custom drop/ratings.

Yeah, I seem to remember that the pistons were different... The 1.8T is my option of choice, as I just want a turbo (and more to the point, injection). I've had enough of carbs, else I'd be looking at the 16V engine. Anyone know if it's the same as the clio williams? I know that that is the same block, only reason I havn't chased it is because the williams is a group 18 or 19 car, and they usually charge you the insurance for whatever car the engine came out of. the group 11 of the 440/480 seems much more fun...

i have been doing some research on T'ebay and i've come across a few parts that would be needed...as mentioned above, GTT low comp pistons are selling for about £25(including sleeves), T2 standard turbo unit recon £50, manifold no cracks!!! £10, uprated intercooler (double standard capacity £15, standard hoses etc about £20...thats £120, its not alot unles i'm missing something...if i am please tell me and i will correct my sums!!!
if anyone could also tell me what kind on horsepower this would produce it would be greatly appriciated, as i have most of the knowleage, and know people who have the know how to put it together, but dont know what it would produce BHP wise...
cheers

Well the disadvantage with any 340 tuning is that you have to consider its £150 for a steel prop shaft replacement. The exhaust manifold is your main problem. You may get away with using the completely standard turbo manifold and elbow but you'd have to remove your heaterbox and therefore either have no heater or make up your own system (not actually that hard, just need a fan and some ducting to where the whole in the bulkhead is). If your handy with a welder then your probably better off buying a R5 exhaust manfold and chop it off at the flanges to give you the template for bolting to the head, then just weld up your own manifold from that. There is also the fuel system, you need the R5 electric pump and pressure regulator and I don't think the outlets from the petrol tank are big enough so you either need to modify the existing tank or you could just ditch the big heavy standard one and run an alloy tank in the boot instead. I'm not sure if the head is different too but i'd imagine so. Really looking at the prices that you can pick up complete R5 engines for on ebay i'd think your better just to do that, saves you a lot of work changing the pistons and it'll make sure you don't miss any parts you need. That way the costs are more like....£100 engine....£150 prop....new fuel lines, pump, tank if required £100....weld your own manifold and custom downpipe and exhaust probably going to be another £100,
Not sure if all of that is right but I doubt its going to be as cheap as your thinking, hope that helps and doesn't put you off too much lol

If nothing else, you'd need to visit Mr Volvo and get revelant gaskets for any parts of the engine you open up.
Again, not trying to put you off, just hate to see projects go way over budget cos somethings been forgotten (been there, done that
