not only in Devon mate ,
I remember a lady in Chesham being trampled to death by a herd of Charolais cattle when I lived there 15 years ago,
she strayed into their field while walking her dog ,

I dont think they nicked her ring or wallet though ,
first case of Bovine mugging i've ever heard of

They can indeed be savage beasties. The ones below look quite placid, but there were some further down the road who where giving me menacing looks.

I remember a rather long thread on this subject on an outdoors forum I visit.

I think there is some unfairness to cattle here, it sounds like the VOC talking about young Volvo drivers

Sounds a dangerous place for a public right of way, or could it be that he was tresspassing, in which case, who's to know what could be there.

My uncle's a farmer and his cattle are very friendly. They are very inquisative creatures, and will approach humans, although are quite timid. Yes, they can be intimidating, but are very rarely dangerous. When they have calves, they will be more protective though.

I totally agree Mj , I have known a few old cows in my time and they usually only turn nasty when you get too close or go too far
