Heh. It's funny that the problems seem to be similiar in other countries too.. :P In Finland we have SVK which stands for Suomen Volvokerho (Volvo Club Of Finland.) http://www.suomenvolvokerho.com/ It was founded somewhere in 70's I think, it started first as PV/Duett Club. Many of it's members are older people who like their cars to be in such condition as they came from factory and especially exterior mods aren't favoured much..

Of course this doesn't stand for all members of SVK but sadly these few elitist people are the loudest ones and it doesn't give a very open minded view of the Club.

Then we have the newer Volvo community, www.volvolandia.com which isn't as much as a club as it is a discussion board and gathering place for all of those who like Volvo, open forum. People from different areas organize meets etc... if they feel like it, so it is not such organized action as it is in a Club. Some of these elitists from SVK are dissing the Volvolandia.com because not all of the members of Volvolandia.com are hard-core Volvo purists, born engine builders etc... and those elitist especially look down on FWD drivers and people who like more modern tuning. In their opinion everyone should like only PVs, Duetts, Amazons, P1800s and 100/200/700/900-series. In my opinion that doesn't do much good for SVK if some of the members (in this case the loudest bunch) are so close minded as the Volvolandia.com has over 8000 members of which many are younger people. If you alianate the youth, the whole Club might not even exist in future. That's something the elitists and older folks should think about.. :P

What I mean is that I'm not a big fan of this modern style exterior modding etc... my self either, I'm more for original look in Volvos and my mods are more in suspension, engine etc... but I don't look down on people who do like more extreme styling and stuff like that. Why would it concern me if someone else likes that stuff.. :P

So it seems that you have kinda same situation with the VOC and newer communities/clubs.. :P

hahahahaha, what have I done? I think I may have started something that has unleashed a beast onto the V3M!!! Everyone is writing essays.

But being serious, I do agree with everything said, we need to get more involved with the VOC, I have been a member for a year now and I've met some very interesting people, like everything it's a shame that a few people marr the bunch.

I was having a bad day and I've had one or two snippets and jibes and digs from the VOC members re modifying cars, they fail to realise it's the longets I've ever kept a car for, I even laid it up on sorn once, but heyho thatnks everyone for responses.
Erm, I've lost my keys again...

Mac, don't mind at all mate, it's a long term problem that seems to keep cropping up. Lets just hope we can move forward, but with some of the stubborn members not wanting to accept us, it will be harder, no matter how much everyone else embraces us.

Sorry to resurrect the topic guys, I know its a hot one at the best of times, but the peeps I've always spoken to (top of my head there have been several more), Dave Ovenden (sp) and his wife, and Jack Cluer spring to mind really, have been great, treated my cars with respect, and have seemed geniunly intrested, Kar even got in the technical with blue LED's footwells ;)

The beardy brigade who don't like us on hte main commitee are very few I reckon (anyone senisble reallises that some of us are likely to be the future possible organisers when they want to step down), but sometimes loud, I almost reckon its not the organisers, but the polishing members who have been washing there cars since purchase in 1741 (when they were around my age) who don't like the fact that the club is getting a hell of a shake up, not mainly by us, but more by IC, Dwane (sp again) etc with the chipping T5 lot. Ok, most of us want to get near the performance section, but I think we are all cutting our teeth until budgets don't soley consist of student loans, but it's not going to be a sole concours club for much longer, if it is at all anymore. The thing I don't get is the volvo speed challenge cars get a lot of coverage, but then, I guess if we wrote up articles for the magazine, we would too... Had this conversation with Dai's dad several times at meets!

Meh, my tupences worth.

On finnish board it is often that 300-serie is not recognized as Volvo model, they usually laugh, but what they don't understand is that 360 is outperforming 240 with same engine in performace/handling wise.

Did anyone see the guy with the maroon 1986 240 at the BKV? He had signs all over it saying "ORIGINAL PAINT". No shit Sherlock, it's only 20 years old...hardly worth shouting about!

cheers
