340 front outrigger source

Post by srtames »

My front floor outrigger has a 1 inch rust hole in it at the outer edge and I would like to completely replace the outrigger rather than patch it. Do Volvo sell these i, I wonder as it has compound curves in it fabricating it would be difficult. thanks, Steve

Hi there,

Volvo certainly used to supply these - whether you can still get them I don't know - try a main stealer - the parts listing below should help. (from you description I think you need no.15)

Good luck - Mac.

340 front outrigger

thanks very much Mac, for the diagram and part no which will be very useful in asking Volvo . My part needed looks like item 6 but is a bit distorted in the 3D drawing . I have those drawings on microfiche (from Ebay) but have no reader! The spot welds holding the front face are invisible so far without any usual distortion you get round a spot weld.

Steve...is it the box section which heads out towards the jacking point? Mine is holed there too, and will require welding for the MOT.

I'm pretty certain Volvo will laugh you out of the dealership, in which case might it be worth getting someone to fabricate a replacement section? An upmarket patch, if you like...but one which accurately follows the profile of the original metalwork, rather than slapping a slab of metal over the top.

This is how I'm planning to repair my 300s when I start welding, as metalwork seems virtually unavailable from Volvo.

cheers

You know thats weird, mt stealership has supplied any metalwork I have asked for - they even showed me what was not available (and thats only two items)

I know they are having issues with the new parts catalogue (what is it now VEDAS? or something - RIP VADIS)

Always better is you can go in with a part number :D

front crossmember

Post by srtames »

Hi all for the replies, Yes, James that is the crossmember you describe near the front jacking point . item 6 pt no 326 7592 on the diagram .Mine has a 1in hole at the sill end(after poking!) . It looks difficult to patch neatly as its a compound curve. I was going to grind out the spot welds and have a new crossmember welded in . Luckily my mot is next April so have time to sort it.
I havent been to the local Volvo dealer yet . If one dealer stocks them, you would think any dealer could order them.

regards,Steve

It should be the case, as the parts locator should be able to tell them what Stealerships have the part in stock. If the truth be known, they probably can't be bothered in some cases, although you do come across some helpful ones now and then!
