Yes Adam,
You have the skills and it's on your doorstep, and you probably have somewhere to store it!
Someone has already done all the hard work of removing it and it's very cheap. Be interesting just to get a good look at it and see if it could be made to fit.
This will give uprated transmission, LSD, disc brakes and a good basis for an IRS setup while maintaining the rear transaxle design.
It's a lot of work, but would probably be worth it!

brakes near the diff is old-style citroen solution as well
.
the 2CV had it, (drums) the DS had it (first mainstream model with disc brakes) and a lot more including AMI, GS, GSA etc.
the cooling, well thats a bit debatable.. what is for sure is that instead of the wheels, all of the engine compartment was dusty soot black after a while

Some notes...
# Inboard brakes (my friend had a GS and has a GSA)....reduces unsprung weight. Bastard to change.
# Box looks weedy as hell. Don't expect strength. Strength comes through physically large components.
# Watt linkage....COOL!
cheers

Actually James, I think you'll find those boxes are pretty damn strong. The twin spark one is near enough the same as the v6 one (diff ratios being the only difference I think). That means it can take around 180bhp in standard form.
I notice the Alfa has the clutch at the gearbox end (an odd idea?!), that'd probably cause a few extra issues too!

Fair point....when I said weedy as hell, I meant no stronger than the M47...which I'd have thought was something to aim for, if you're going for a box upgrade.
cheers

Well it's got LSD and disc brakes, which I guess is an upgrade of sorts (if you consider drums to inboard discs an upgrade!!). I would imagine it's slightly more slicker than the M47 too in terms of gear changes, but that's not based on any form of fact
Would definately be an interesting project, but way beyond my capabilities!!
