Thought i was going mad for a bit but there is a different click coming from the dash/dials as I am driving along in my 340..
Only just noticed it this evening as have just changed my wheels and was listening out for a rumble I had heard from rear wheel when i noticed it.......
Sounds similar to the click you would hear when using the indicators but less regularily...like an electrical switch or something?
Seems to be happening every 5 secs or so ....is as if something is trying to turn on or something..
Please confirm that im not going mad and that this is something that someone may have had before!
I'm inclined to agree that this sounds very 'speedo' related. Could be the cable running dry or the tripmeter getting tight and failing to 'progress' - both can give a similar noise but I would go for the tripmeter (drum nise). If it is this resetting the trip can sometimes clear it.
To rule out something electrical (can't think of anything with about 5sec.Hz) find an empty road with a long hill and coast down at speed with the ignition off (no leave the key in the ignition!) and see if the noise is still there. If it is then suspect the above. Although trip noise will be road speed related it won't vary much at 'normal' speeds. If it's speedo cable you will notice a distinct change in frequency as you speed up or slow down.
