Servo question

Post by bogbasic »

Hello, is the brake servo on an '88 360 the same as that on a 340 of similar year? I think I need to swap mine for a better one. Cheers, bogbasic.
1988 340 1.4 GL, 218k, 5 door (Grey Bess). Gone to CBA.
1991 340 1.7 GL, 64k, 5 door, petrol blue (Deep Blue).
1988 360 2.0 GLE, 140k, 5 door, ocean blue metallic (Blue Bess).
1989 340 1.7 GL, 108k, 3 door (Red Ness).

Yes, I'm pretty damn certain they're all the same. The only brake componants which were different between models 1980+ were the size of the rear drums (and shoes?) - smaller on 340s.

Perhaps someone with VADIS can confirm with part numbers? I've not got it installed at the moment.

cheers

Servo design changed somewhere around '85 to a larger unit - MC changed then too. Other than that I'm pretty sure they're the same across the range

Good point Aaron - I have one kicking around here from a ~1985 model, and I'm sure it's different to the ones on the cars.

I'm sure it wouldn't matter if you used an earlier one, but a like-for-like replacement is probably better.

The only significant change that I'm aware of was the move to single-piston sliding calipers from the dual (opposing & fixed?) piston calipers for the 1970s cars. I expect the early cars stopped better!

cheers
