Is it possible to fit a B230 and if, how much work will it demand??
Yes that oil sump will fit. And you have to change oil pump from that B19 as well. B20 engine is completely different engine. It won't fit easily as these B19, B21, B23, B200, B230. Basically these engines are the same just cubic capacity is different. If i am right B23 and B230 are almost the same (or does that B23 in standard form run on low octane unleaded petrol) so it up to you which engine you find.

The B20 is the early version of the B21 using pushrods instead of over head cam. The B20 actualy revs better than the overhead cam engines but that is a different story.
Any of the 2.3 volvo red block n/a engines will fit with little trouble. The only problem you would have is if you try and use a K jetronic injection engine I think the manifold is to tall to fit under the bonet.

Exhaust is same for 2.3 & 2.0 as most of other parts so you can use these from your old engine.Citek111 wrote:The change of oil sump and pump is due to the frontaxle then??? Beauty of redblocks is that those are compatible with each other really well, so even late model redblocks fit really well, imo.

The best thing to do is get the two engines side by side, and swap anything which looks different. It should be sump, oil pump, water pump, water pump pulley, engine mounts.
I'd choose any B230 in good condition. A carb model will make for an easier swap, as injection versions will need all the electronics swapping too. If you choose a B230K, the 86+ versions with the "Heron" cylinder head are not loved if the cambelt breaks. An earlier B230K (from a 240, so it has the right distributor) might be the best idea.

A = Stromberg sidedraft carb
K = Pierburg, Solex, etc downdraft carb
'A' engines are just fine too. Perhaps rather more thirsty in terms of fuel usage. Here, those are harder to find, so I didn't mention them.

Not a huge amount in BHP, but torque increases a nice amount...and you can always add the top-end power later - like you say.

Tim from down under i bought a Volvo 360 Last year loving it though i am also after more power and i have no idea about cars what so ever apart from driving them.... I am hoping the infinite knowledge and wisdom of all you 300 Maniacs can help me i would like to know what engines would be compatible in my 1986 volvo 360 glt i currently have a 2lt non turbo fuel injected engine though i was hoping to find a 6 cylinder or something with more umph! If there is such an engine from a new model volvo that might be compatible i would also be very interested in hearing about it.
Can someone help me???
