Here is few more:
http://www.janiervast.com/kuvat/index.p ... volvo/240/

It is quite nice for it's age indeed, but there is bit more rust than was told and it has been painted at some stage, but I haven't noticed anything really horrible at least yet, serves it's purpose at least and I can get to work as 360 is not in such condition that I could drive it now.

It is very different to drive, steering is feather light and bumps on road are not feeling almost at all, also there is no any suspension noises at bumps, car just kind of floats over road, also engine sound is very relaxing :P

Must ask official parking place for that one, maybe I can get one that is next to my 360, somehow I find it bit amusing to have two blue Volvo's, like it would be until now that I'm truly a Volvo enthusiast

And if they're parked next to each other you can be sure you won't get any door dings on the matching sides, unless you do it. :P

D5 or D6?

If it's a D6 then fitting the head, turbo and intercooler from a '88> 760, or a late 940 would help it go nicely.

D24 so that is called also D6 then I guess?

D24TIC surely would give it nice boost but I need to first decide if it is museum registration or just for road use, in later case it would be possible to fit turbo, also pump is then needed from D24TIC as in D24T it is different and also in this D24.

Whopping 82hp this one has, in car that weights over 1300kg  well no speeding for me sir, might be just good ;)

The engines were the D24, D24t and D24Tic, but when the 240 was originally offered with the diesel engine Volvo called the car the 240 D6 (and D5 for the 5cyl version).

D24 more reliable than a B200K? Hmm...

Having said that, I can't talk...I've just bought some of that front wheel drive nonsense to bum around in while the 300s are getting worked on. And when I say worked on, what I mean is ignored while Ryan's 740 is fixed sm56

cheers

Depends from B200K ;)

D24 is strong engine if used properly, it has it's own problems and surely needs to be used properly or else it is early engine failure. You need good synthetic oils, also engine must be fully warmed before using full throttle and you can't just shut down it after driving, you need to keep it running for a while.

FWD :( :( Get some shape to yourself young man and get proper RWD car

There are couple of things wrong that I have spotted from new car.

-Heater fan motor bearings are busted (new motor, not expensive, but hell of job to replace)
-Heater temp seem to be on/off so there is either cold or hot (no idea what this could be)
-Car pulls slightly to left (power steering calibration or toe setting)
-Driveline causes vibration and noise when going at highway speeds and specially when flooring it (possibly cardan bearing or those joints, not expensive)
-Engine does not start perfectly when cold (perhaps glow plugs, not expensive)
-There are some more rust spots, perhaps painted over rust, I suspect that in 1-2 years it can be quite bad.
-Brakes need complete overhaul, there is vibration and soft pedal + it pulls to right at braking.
-steering wheel is not straight

So I guess I need to forgot museum registration at least until I'm really rich as bodywork needs some attention for that. If there is no anything else I might fix those not too expensive issues and put turbo to it to get bit of performance too, but let's see now.

Congratulations, jtbo on your buy! Really glad you're staying in the Volvo family and haven't gone and bought a FWD Corolla which, no doubt, would have been the "easier" option.

That's a nice V6 / Diesel lump on the bonnet. None of those around here any more, they've all been taxed out of existence ...

Ah, good to know that then, what an odd feature to have in upper class car

Oh yes, it is painfully slow, but sound of straight six more than makes it up 8)

Done 800km already, power steering had bit low on oil and topped that, but else only fuel so far, should change oil and belts soon, but no free spot of time :(

Just today I came to think about Corolla and cold shiver run across my back, for example in Corolla there is load of wind noise at 80kph, door seals are making lot of noise etc, in this nothing, tire noise and engine noise, small wind noise, but door seals are perfect no noise from there so car is rather quiet.

Some belt is making bit of noise, perhaps pump's belt, sounds bit like supercharger whine, need to check that, pump's belt is very tight, maybe even too much, but I don't know how to adjust that so I better let professionals mess with that.

It drinks fuel around 6.5l/100km that is something like 36mpg, bit of city, somewhat 100kph and quite lot 80kph driving on highway.

Must add one more to list, differential makes noise :?

I will check that this evening, topping oil level and hoping that to cure problem, sound is not strong, but audible and sounds bit like supercharger whine indeed, I thought that it was from front but it really comes from rear of car and if I put clutch down it keeps making it, well it can be wheel bearing too, but haven't heard it making such sound ever.

Not very expensive even if I need to replace differential, but one day's work at least.
