Odometer woes - Volvo 340 Redline

Post by 340 Redline »

Hi,
The Odometer has broken on my 340 Redline. Does anyone know the odometer gear details for me to order a replacement component part? Or better still, a place that stocks them?

Thanks.

Aren't they a bit of an Archilles Heal on these cars?
My 1.7 GLE Ltd Edition is stuck at 54256!

Hi and welcome to Volvo300Mania!

Yes the 300 VDO speedo units do tend to cause some problems with failing to record mileage, but still show speed. There is a how to guide located here http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... php?t=4147 by FoggyJames on how to sort this problem.

The component doesn't need replacing, just the movement on the shaft restricting so it still drives the numbers correctly. It's something I still need to do on one of my cars, and one of those annoying problems you tend to live with or ignore!

OK, in a related issue but not covered by the how-to guide...

my trip counter wont reset properly when I push the button thing in, at best it'll go down to 9/10 miles, but will never zero itself.

any ideas?

IIRC the dials in your car are Smiths not VDO? Are they numbered in odd numbers and white rather than numbered with the even speeds? If so, I've not had one apart to be sure, the later cars got VDO units, like the one in Foggy's how to guide.

I'm guessing the lever mechanism for resetting it has jumped off or something has moved, or the numbers have jumped or the shaft isn't aligned properly.

Yeah, I have Smiths gauges, I'll have the instrument cluster apart to fit a rev counter, so unless somebody knows how to do it, I'll found out then.
