Another Volvo in the family

Post by Carl »

I seem to have acquired myself another Volvo!! Fioner will soon be stepping down ( :( ), but in her place (sort of) will be.......... an 850 T5.

Not to everyone's taste, and I'm sure I'll get the 'FWD pansy car' nonsense, but I couldn't care less because that turbo power is soooo addictive!!

Noise is good (has a SS exhaust too), but not as good as the Rover ;)

Not sams, I got it cheap from my dad's partner in crime. £400 with 10 months MoT, so not too shabby!

"Överladdad's" former car, now owned by Matts Gustavson, it has currently 860hp/930Nm. 8)

Here's another highly built 850, that engine used to be in Opel Ascona  but now it's in a Volvo again. It produces about 800hp.

I'm glad to see the later engines are tuned just as well as the good old red blocks!! 225bhp should keep me amaused for a while though, it'll certainly be the quickest car I've owned.

My brother's 850:

Tiny 2.0 engine, 210000 miles, and extremely rusty boot lid hinges due to regular showerings of salty water

They sure are good load luggers, but too many darn electrics.

Ours has been having Lambda sensor troubles recently, but is now fixed.

Unfortunately yesterday it came home with some motor or something running after the engine was switched off and key removed. (Not the main electric cooling fan, it's definitely not that) The only way to stop it was to disconnect the battery lead. Connected it up again today and the motor runs again. It's on the passenger side near the battery and sounds like a hair drier. Phoned up the dealer, and first suggestion was headlight wiper motor, but after unplugging all plugs near there and removing the fuse found that wasn't it.

Now they think it's some kind of fan, an astro cooling fan or something? *looks towards Mac* Anyway it's hidden somewhere in the engine bay. We've seen way too much of the dealers lately :(

Anyway, enjoy the 850, hopefully yours will be very reliable. Just don't drive it like the Police drive em' ;)

MJ, it's not the air-pump for the exhaust emissions is it?

Err, I'm afraid I don't know what that is or where it is. The sound is near the passenger side headlight and battery. It's nothing to do with a turbo is it, as this is a non turbo engine?

After googling it seems to be related to the oxygen sensor which is a clue seeing as that's had problems. I need to get a Haynes manual for it...

Thanks for the idea, and sorry for the thread jack Carl ;)

You still on the subject of 850, so that's not too bad ;)

I'm expecting problems TBH, the clutch at least will need changing at some point. Oh, and when I tried a 'spirited' launch the heater knob fell off. Lets hope thats not a sign of things to come!!
