Door locking issues

Post by micutzu »

340pw
I have a 1986 340 DL Volvo. The sad part is that the front doors open only from the inside !!! the locking mecanism is broken. I've understood that this is a general Volvo 340 issue. Please give me an advise on what I could do to fix this because it's very frustrating. Otherwise the car is O.K.
Thanks,
Florian/ Romania

take the interior door panels off and have a look - you should see some long metal rods that hook together. it is my suspicion that one of the rods is disconnected.

Surely the problem is that he can't remove them (because the doors are stuck shut) to look inside!

cheers

Thanks for the replies. I can get in ;) by opening the back door, but i really need to strech in order to reach the right rear door, and open the car. I removed the front door panels and indeed the long metal rod that interconnects to something is broken ;((( I don't know really how to fix this, because the spare parts are so difficult to find.

My door panels have been off for a long time, and everything's connected too. It's something in the catches themselves that's the problem...

Nothing a hefty kick won't fix ;)

Try welding / brazing the pieces of rod back together. Failing that, if you can get a picture of the part, I'm sure someone could post one to you...

cheers
