The AC systems I've seen do have an extra fan fitted - in the round cut-out in the fan shroud.

Oops, when I wrote "the original" A/C systems weren't fitted with an extra fan, I meant "the early" A/C systems, which seemed to suffer from cooling problems (I think Andy mentioned that once, and it's confirmed by the green book).

It certainly sounds like I'll have to fix my cooling problem in the GLT before even thinking about putting in air con ;-) And at 120 pounds just for the fan, it looks like it's going to be pretty costly too :-(

For what it's worth, Andy's car had the fan and still had cooling problems...although that was largely sorted out by putting a lower temperature fan switch in, I believe.
