Right, to cut a long story short, GRRRRRRAAAAAAARRRRRRRGH!!!!!!!!!!
Some b@stard son of a wh0re has been into my beautiful blue 3dr and buggered the steering lock. They were obviously disturbed because the cowling was still in place over the ignition. But they trashed the driver's door lock and I can't start the car because the steering lock's stuck on. Before I wander out into the rain, how hard is it to replace an igniton barrel?
Never had any experience of this kind of repair before, and I have a whole spare steering column but that's mega effort to swap over. Anyone think I should just finish the job of breaking the steering lock so I can get the car drivable?
I'll probably lock it securely away in the unit until the weekend when I'll upgrade the security somewhat.
They ent too bad mate but unless someone has already had the barrel off you will have to drill the bolts out.
They are security bolts.
I had to change the whole lock set on mine when an ex stole my spare key!!!
Adam
Cheers Adam, I've had a look at my spare and found that out. I've just brought the steering wheel indoors overnight, should deter opportunists
Are whole lock sets available from somewhere? I was quite enjoying having one key for the whole car.
Barstewards. Any other damage other than the door lock, did they lever the door out first? It's not a job I've attempted tbh, I've got an entire steering column complete with key removed, but I haven't looked any further at how it's constructed.
Lucky they didn't get any further mate. I've got plans for my security, but just never get the time to put them into action, sadly it cannot involve 30,000 volts through the thieving little scrotes.

John, I'd do as Pete suggested, and see if you can change the levers in the barrel to your orig key, it's possible on some of the locks, all you need are the levers from your old barrel!
If thats not poss, changing the door looks can be a pain in the backside, but doable, I *might* have kept the entire lockset from Beast, but I've a horrible feeling I didn't take the ignition barrel. They are on the island too, but if it's needed, look for them next time I'm over? Else a scrappy I guess
Adam, is that the same bird you bought to the meet and got your forum login? Sounds a special one!
Blimin' thieving delinquents. Why can't they just leave other peoples cars alone We need to organise a late night V3M meet somewhere dodgy with a bait car and play some tricks on these lowlifes

If there's an exchange of money you're bound to end up with trouble Or are you thinking of selling Kate at the next meet?
What are those codes written on all of those handles? They aren't the key codes are they, like the ones on some house keys that you can tell a locksmith and they can make up a key without one to copy?
If so, they really didn't ought to post that on e-bay
No, they're not the key codes. Some kind of scrappy-code more like ... Even if they did post up the actual key code, you'd have to know who bought the locks to get any, er "criminal benefit" out of it ...
BTW, I recently ordered a new key from Volvo after losing one of ours. They replaced it using the chassis number rather than the key code which surprised me a bit.
My steering wheel slept in the house with me last night, get out of that one!
They did try bending the door out, but must have been pathetically weak because they couldn't do it. They ruined the keyhole with a screwdriver and scratched the rear O/S window surround trying to lever it out. Then they finally gained entry by pulling the door handle out a bit. A sexy lady scene-of-crime officer took away the half-empty water bottle the thieves left behind, and it will be tested for DNA and prints.
I pulled a mul-t-lock from my scrapper so I'll be fitting that tomorrow and investing in a quick release wheel boss as I wanted a sports wheel anyway. I'll probably sort out an alarm too.
I always take the steering wheel off if I have to leave the volvo unattended in southampton. Though apparently theives are very suspicious of cars left totally unlocked (had people set the alarm on the saab off when the ovlov was sat on the drive next to it totally unlocked as I'd been in a rush and forgotten!)

I know people who ususally don't lock their cars, but don't keep anything valuable in them. Less door breakage
