VOC parts supply

Post by workshopmanualman »

...I was kind of toying with the idea of joining the VOC just to gain access to their parts suppliers. However, looking at their site, the 300 seems relatively unpopular. So I'm a bit hesitant to spend £30 joining at the moment. [It's not the principal, it's the money!]

Has anybody any experience of the club and their parts suppliers? If they are people we can find on the web anyway, then what is the point otherwise?

I cant see it being worth joining just for any small benifit on parts supply.

There are other benifits that do make it worth joing and a nice little mag

The VOC parts supply didn't do me any good looking for a throttle cable, George at Friends of the Volvo 300 on the other hand was an absolute legend!

The VOC wouldn't even recognise us as a marque if they had the option... and now we've got some complete numpty as a registry keeper it's just going to get worse!

I joined the VOC for a year and tbh, I didn't find many benefits other than being able to be in the line up at the BKV and getting a magazine now and then. Maybe the 300 scene might get a bit more respect and attention now that Bottrill fellow is Registered Keeper! I also get the feeling that because it's the smaller Dutch based Volvo, we're not 'proper' Volvo owners etc etc. Hopefully this will change, but we're all going to be in the same boat soon, now that this stupid parts supply from Ford is happening when it reaches over 10 years old, support is dropped. We need to club together.

George Mitchell really is doing the best he can, and as Dave says, really is a legend. He is trying to get things sorted, and support for troublesome items setup. He's sourced the bottom spring cups and supports for them for quite some time, and is able to supply them at a very reasonable price. Mac with the diff gaskets and bolt kits. If a few more people can take on a certain part or problem, things that the aftermarket parts manufacturers won't ever get around to making (even if it will be a poorer quality, something is better than nothing from these places) then we might have it licked and be able to give Ford the two fingered salute and not be forced into buying their new rubbish!

The VOC is well worth joining, if only for the 10% on parts at dealers. Since I've been going to the beardy meets, I've changed my mind, the guys who turn up there (and there are a couple of register keepers and other positioned people who do turn up) do care about the 300, just don't know about it. A fair few of them are running 300's as daily's by the looks, but don't have a clue what half the problems are!

Got a beard of sorts, like sitting in armchairs reading mags posted through door and have been member for 7 years now - feel happier keeping it that way - think subscriptions more expensive of late because some of us pay whenever we like
