360 - new speakers sound tinny

Post by speedydan »

Hi guys!

I've just (finally!!) managed to get out the original Volvo stereo.... man, was that a pain!!! Anyhows, ive whacked a sony cd player in that i had from my old car and it all seems to work fine. However, i've run some cable to some speakers in the boot (kenwood 6x9's) but the sound coming from them is really tinny... hardly any bass.

I've tried switching the wire around to make sure i havent got + and - round the wrong way, but it makes no difference. Anyone shed any light??

Thanks!!
:)

It sounds like the LF driver in your 6x9s has failed. Try wiring them up to another stereo (in the house?) and if they still sound the same, replace...

cheers

This is so important, and it's a wonder how few people know about it. PA engineers runs new stacks at 20% for 6 hours, the 40% Then 60% then 80% - 24hrs solid play later they're good to go. The same is true for all speakers. People plug in a brand new pair of speakers, turn it up to 11 and wonder why it sounds shit.

Having said that, I'm sure James is right - you have a bigger problem than that.

it may mnot be a bigger problem,

Having dealt with audio before on an installer front.

some speakers sound tinny to one person but to another its perfect, so it could just be your ears. the best thing to do is to always listen to different brands of speakers,

I found the stock volvo speaks tbh were shit. thats my opinion, I cant say much i have tinterus affecting my hearing plus having the volume up at 45 veryday due to the bass i listen to doesnt help. But im used to it compared to others that listen to it down low.

but yeh run them in. as i say tinny to you might be perfect to another.
