Tom...Janis up there was asking if people were travelling from that area, but it looks like he wants to go for the whole weekend, not just the Saturday. I guess you guys could go in convoy, though.

cheers

James

So that's the current attendance list. The only people I don't have accounted for are Theo and SteveP. What are your plans guys? I should be seeing Shimon tomorrow, so may be able to confirm what he's up to then.
Depending on the exact number who turn up on the day, it looks like we should be able to cover most if not all of the entrance fee for the museum (for the Sunday).

Right, further plans. Saturday roadtrip! The first thing to say is that this is not a race...more of a 'cruise'. If you want to drive like a tit or practice your mad tight driftorz skillz, feel free (I may well join you!)...but do it well away from the group, please. We have on occasions attracted the attention of the authorities, and it does tend to ruin what's supposed to be a nice (even family-friendly) day out. Last year worked well...so just be a bit sensible. I'm sure I don't really need to say it...but just in case...there it is...and let not another word on the subject be breathed! On a similar note...quite a bit of the route is in 40mph limits, and you are strongly advised to stick to them, as there can be wildlife in the way...and we're talking about the sort of wildlife which has hooves and which will do a very good job of bending cars.

After a lengthy chat with Rupert and Chris on the phone tonight, we have put together a provisional route. As Chris mentioned, we're due to meet at 11am at A34 Sutton Scotney Services SOUTHBOUND on the Saturday, ready for the drive. The idea is to give everyone a series of checkpoints, where we will all meet up. You're absolutely free to take whatever route you wish, but we've come up with two suggestions...

Long:
http://tinyurl.com/6xqxjg4
Short:
http://tinyurl.com/64w4wst

...note that the time difference for the first leg is 45 minutes...so if you're going to cruise down the M27, bring a book for when you get to the other end! That should see us all arrive for lunch around 1pm. I will call the pub tomorrow to confirm that they like this plan...! The afternoon drive will see us stop off a couple of times on our route to the campsite. The route currently points to the pub where we're booked in for dinner, as we haven't confirmed which campsite we're using yet. We should be confirming that tomorrow.

If you're planning to stay over on the Saturday night, but are allergic to camping, I would suggest you call a B&B in the area...
http://tinyurl.com/5rscq4y
...but it's a bit last minute, so...er...good luck! It is also unlikely to be cheap.

I think that's all for tonight. I'm knackered! Thanks to Rupert and especially Chris for their help with this (Rupert did most of the work last year, and he's getting old, so we're letting him take it easy...he's just shouting at us to get organised, which makes him feel important...) :)

cheers

James

The two current proposed stopping and photo sessions for the afternoon consist of these for anyone who wants to do some background reading:

Ashley Walk is a favourite exploring spot of mine, loads of history and always find something new, though I doubt we'll be able to do any exploring it's certainly worth a google satellite view before we get there so you can understand the vastness of it.

Subject to phoning, I have 2 or 3 pubs on hand depending on where Foggy puts people camping so it's not to much of a distance. For equal distance purposes, I believe you are South Forest Mac?

Are a significant number of people planning to stay in the area on the Friday? I must admit, I'd assumed most people would be coming down on the Saturday morning, but I'm very happy to pub on Friday night.

cheers

James

Southport would be a pretty huge detour. There may be a few more people travelling from the Birmingham area, if you could get down there...?

I think it will be just me (no Jack and Rachel) for the weekend James, if you want to adjust the numbers. 99% sure on this. (something to do with bit of a long way for one night in a tent or something  )

Will be heading down very early Sat Morning most likely.

Is anyone else heading south on the M1 from Doncaster Southwards (or passing from the north for that matter) for a convoy?

Noted Andy, thanks.
Would be good to see you Janis, if you can make it...but I do understand that it's a long way, and fuel isn't cheap. A 4 speed will cruise at 100mph though...no problem! :)

Pubs for Saturday lunchtime and evening are now booked for 12 persons. Farrell is joining us, and Ben may do so as far as the lunch stop, but is busy for the rest of the weekend. Tomorrow is campsite day. 1-1:30pm for lunch, and 7:30 for dinner. The first place warned us that there is likely to be a long delay when feeding 12...so prepare yourselves! He wanted advance choices from the menu, and I said there was no chance...I can't get half of them to confirm whether or not they're coming, never mind picking food! Speaking of which...Rupert, you need to call Steve...he's making bailing noises.

I'll leave Friday pub up to Chris!

cheers

James

Sorry to bugger about James, but Rachel is now making un-bailing out noises, so it may be 3 of us after all! I'm not sure yet, will let you know when when the mind is made up.

I am more than happy to convoy with Janis. Messaged him and have his contact number. Our 4 speed 1.4's will make it there just fine :D Been there, done that 340pw

It's a good 250 mile drive for us so will take the shortest, quickest and cheapest route possible.

Will have to have a word with my boss who seems to have messed up my shifts for Saturday. As far as I'm concerned I'm not doing any shift on Saturday!
