Foggy do you have 2 front struts for my 360? they are different lengths. One is longer than the other. Do you know if 340s had shorter ones to 360s? on is 14" from the arch to the hub on one side. And 13" on the other
let me know chris

GLTs had lower springs, so it might have a spring (or complete strut) from a different model on one corner. The springs may also have sagged unevenly. The other option is that one lower spring seat might have suffered impact damage, and partially inverted itself. The struts themselves are all the same. Well...having said that, I believe 340 1.4s run a different amount of camber, as the strut is a little 'bent'...but meh!
Either way, I suggest you jack it up, get the wheels off, and have a good look ASAP. The lower spring seats are a sod for rusting through where they meet the strut tube...and the result is usually pretty nasty, especially if you've got the hammer down...!
I can probably sort you something out should the need arise, but I think you need to work out exactly what is wrong, first.
cheers

foggy, i got it on a lift today. the near side hub to arch distance was 13" and the offside was 14". So on is definetly wrong, the 14" side doesnt rub on corners

That could easily be spring sag/snappage.
I'd look at that first.

I'm sure something is wrong, but it could be a number of things. I'd inspect the spring for snappage, and the spring seat for bentness (I'm going for technical terms here..!). If all looks fine there, it'll probably be that one spring is sagged more than the other, or isn't a GLT spring. I guess a "known good" pair of struts from a GLT would fix it, either way.

I'm pretty sure the struts themselves are (originally) the same length, regardless of which 300 they're from, so I think it must be either unevenly sagged springs or a bent spring seat (due to a heavy landing, something like that). Both are common enough, although the springs tend to sag evenly, making me think it might be a bent lower spring cup. That's particularly common on cars with stiff springs...quite often seen on rally cars...which usually both a) feature stiff springs and b) get launched off crests fairly regularly!

I spoke to dai, he suggested that the spring cups a different, they do look visually different. Im probs best off finding 2 glt struts then? instead of changing the spring and its actually the insert or something

I'm pretty sure they all have the same part number, but I could be wrong. There's certainly only one replacement part available (for when they've rusted through). Of course they will look much 'flatter' if they've been bent downwards. As mentioned in that other thread, I'll take a look at my spare struts next time I'm up at the unit.
cheers
