Does anyone have any experiance of paying to get some welding done?
Last week i took the mk1 345 out of the garage to give it a bit of an inspection.
The car is in pretty good condition. However the rear drivers side sill and jacking point
needs welding as does the front two chassis legs. I have know experince of welding
so will have to get it done properly. I just wondered how much this might cost.

In my experience mark, depending on the garage it can be anything from 50-75 for labour, then materials.
Theres usually "mobile welders" advertised on the likes of Gumtree thatll do work at your door on the cheap.
Theres chaps on Retro Rides offer a similar service but I dont think Ive ever noticed anyone over in Norn Iron.

Maybe be nice to Ride-on? :D

You need to make sure that you get it to a guy who understands classic repair bud, rather than an MOT weld.

Thing is, this isn't going to be as cheap, but it will mean your car won't just have a new sheet of steel gaffered over the current rust. I have no idea abouts the area you live... but do I remember you took some pics of the yellow beasty by some docks? The docks will house some of the best welders in the country, if you know any of those you might be able to do the grinding and patch making yourself if one of those guys will zap the patch in for you for a bottle?

Hey mate!, there is a guy in Kennedy Way that specialises in fixing up old/classic cars, he has a lush - looking white BMW 1602 in his yard, just behind the petrol Garage at the turn in from kennedy way, never spoke to the guy before but i have noticed some interesting wagons in his yard, ive no idea what he might charge either, but i reckon he would know what he was doing!.

+1 to what Chris says about "MOT welds" - that's been done to my daily for the past years and it's money down the drain if you intend on keeping the car a bit longer ...

Seeing two rusty 300's from underneath in a single day, and hearing the quote for the repairs needed is enough to turn anyone's legs to jelly :?

Hi lads.
Thanks for the replys.I have found an old bloke nearing retirement who welds classic cars.
He said he would tackle the job sometime at the begining of November.
He was working on a Austin Healy and an Austin Allegro  when i met him so i recon
he should know what he is doing. Thank again for the advice.
