Engine has quite some power too! we had the same block in an Renault Espace a while back and they weigh nearly 2tons... and it was quite powerfull and torquey - fuel economy of it was poor however!

So, idiot question time.
Doing a derv conv (in theory) youd need to change the block, the tank.... and what else?

Tank I doubt would be needed as long as it was flushed well?
Finding out how it was run would be the key. A mechanical fuel pumped version is super easy to run, no "management" as such to speak of as the thing just dumps x amount of fuel relative to y boost pressure. Pour deseasal in, get spinny things out.
The thing that I'd be stressed about is pushing that many torques through that drivetrain. It'd be worse than the valvers as it'd break things at low rpm too.

I'd be willing to check both these engines out, get some torque figures and measurements and see if they would theoretically fit. My dad has an S40 so it's just a case of taking some plastic off and having a look.
Didn't realise the F9Q was DI. Sweet

This has too be done, who has all the money?
Id be well up for it, it would be a greater learn experience, but im poor :/ Ye my mate had a derv lag and he said when it was new it had the highest torque in its cat, ill ask him

So already we know that the 340 props couldn't take the 2.5. However, the S40 engine is 176nm at 2500rpm. Williams being 175 at 6100rpm. So it's not far off. You run the risk of blowing a prop but with correct engine mounts we could be in business...

At a lower rpm the stresses in the prop would be lower, so the deisel at 165 at a lower rpm would be safer than the willaims. This is what i can remmber from my stress analysis lectures, I have the exam on friday... lol! How about 360 running gear?

It's such a hassle, much better just getting a 360 and using a D5

so its either a d5 in a 360 or a f series in a 340, would but the d5 is going to have different mounts?

Yes and some tunnel chopping. This is still much easier than the transmission swap.

Ah, this is something I want to do now :/ Has anyone done it before?

Nope. If you do the 360 D5 swap, I'll do the 340 S40 swap. Deal?
