We use the guide thats closest to the diameter but i dont think we had one were it sat snug. Before we bent it. we stood the tube on its end with the end on the floor blanked off. We welded a piece of metal on the bottom, then, up the top dropped sand down the tube, and using a custom made compacter ( a metal disk on the end of piece of rod) would put the compactor down the tube, and hit it with a hammer to compact the sand as much as we could. This way, when we bent the tube the sand would stop the walls from collapsing. The most important bit is the compacting the sand. When we did the main hoop, we put sand in the tube but couldnt compact it. Thats probably why one end flattened slightly, but from then on we used that 'tool' to compact the sand a lot better, and all the bends from then on came out perfectly

Tried similar with exhaust tubing, but I assume it was down to the thin walls and the join why that was crushing.

All the stuff we've bent has been Clubman 500, which is a derivative of T45. We tried to bend a tiny tube of T45 we've got for supporting the fibreglass panels, its about 10-15mm ID with a 2/3mm wall thickness. It wasnt having none of it. not event he hulk could have bent that tube! haha its tough stuff. If your using ordinary CDS, pack it with loadsssssss of sand, and all should be fine Dont forget when measuring up, you need to add say 10m on the end as you will need to chop of the end/plate thats welded on to keep the sand in Thomas...........

Sound advice though bud. Just dunno how much the tubing is these days (last priced some a couple years back) and what kind I would need.

Gonna measure the motor though and see what it's gonna cost me.

I reckon if I make my own I will do what you did and have the main hoop bent properly though! Then some sexy ass gusset plates to tie it to the pillars.

I could supply you with a main hoop from work and then you could go from there? And by gussets, you mean these beautys?

Yeah, I think they're called gussets? Then again, so are the triangular plates for tying to strut towers etc? By flaring tool do you mean the one that makes the strengthened circular holes? They look great - and do a good job!

I'll get the price for one tomorrow and post it up We can also supply full cages with A pillar bars and door bars with x's in the back, down to half cages with door bars for 'streeto'

And yeh the flaring tool is a must! We came up with a sneaky way to do it but if it went wrong we had to make another plate lol

Ok, so i just got this back from Finess in Sweden:

Converted the prices are: 3852 Swedish Krona = £365 and the shipping 1200 = £113 so all in thats £478 which isnt bad.

We can supply you a main hoop for £250+postage, bent on one of those mahoosive proper machines that do it nicely Then all you need to do it make the back stays diagonals and door bars which is easy Thomas........

^ Nice work on price findin bud. I may just go for that one and add a bit more bracing. Is a decent price, well for a ready welded bolt in it would be. The door bars are crap/pointless mind! Depends how much the tubing is gonna cost me as to whether it is worthwhile. Nice to see we have a couple options though.

I have heard of F1 Moto yeah, but only through DW I think. The guy, Nev built that DET engined Volvo 360 didn't he? Will bear you in mind. Cheers!
