Ah! was confused then! I thought "could have sworn mine was a manual" Also was a little sad thinking someone else had a volvo called derrick, before me. Phew!

Welcome by the way! Very tidy car. Quite like the pastille blue colour too.

My vario tends to be noisy too. Was told when I got it to put talc on the belts. Not done it as it's only noisy for the first few hundred metres especially if not used for a few days. Gonna have to have a look see if theres any rust in there.

Roulunds aftermarket belts - normal.

I'm so glad I didn't just dream the whole Derrick thing :D Mine's old and blue and offensively loud, so maybe I should call it Bernard (Manning)

Don't know where I got Derrick from - I meant Bjorn the Volvo sm10
I am actually the new proud owner of Bjorn the Volvo, having owned it since August: http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =2&t=12375. I doubt that your car is louder than mine, as it really is extremely noisy! The youtube vids of Richard taking him for a spin don't quite reflect quite the level of din that comes from the transmission at high speed. I have had the same thoughts as you about the noise, but I've come to the conclusion that it is probably normal, so don't worry about it too much. If you're ever over in Cambridge, you could pop over and have a listen (and I'd equally like to listen to yours to reassure myself!)!

Keep us posted.

Siôn

Hi lads.
Listin. Loud noises can be cut out by listing to Pink Floyd CDs
Cheers Mark.

That is pretty loud ... Is that a typical Roulunds problem? If so, definitely worth changing to original Volvo belts.

Good plan Mark. Oh but hang on a minute, I don't have a CD player... or a cassette player... or FM radio. Maybe the next priority after the brakes is a decent stereo

Thanks for the reassurance Siôn, I feel much happier about the noisy blighter now :D
