Another thing is, depending on how old you are, the 1.4's good for insurance, but you can drop the 1.7 in without the COUGHpoliceCOUGH knowing as it looks like it should be in that car, whereas the f7 engines are blatently obviously not meant to be in the car. That way you've got a little bit more poke but no ones the wiser

hehe

...except when you get involved in an accident and your insurance is invalid and then you have to go to court and explain and pay hefty medical bills for the people you injured.
I wouldn't recommend it. Not that I haven't done it, but it's really stupid.

All i have to say to that, without wanting to start an argument, is: Dont crash! If your going around with invalid insurance because you dont feel like paying for the outright robbery these insurance companies commit these days! then you cant afford to drive like a twat, and have to drive sensibly, and if you feel like driving fast, dont decide to do it across a town centre! Doing things like this means you have one more thing that should be stopping you, but in any case, if everyone were paying attention and not driving like idiots, we wouldnt have accidents anyway would we

Yep, totally agree. But I don't think it's fair that some people (like me) pay through the nose for modified insurance just because of my age when others can simply do without.
Also the chances are, you're fitting a bigger engine for performance use. If you're not going to drive like an idiot - where are you going to use the extra horses?
Don't get me wrong, I've had moments of late teenage years where I'd drive around modified cars without proper insurance for these exact reasons, doesn't make it right though. I got away with it, luckily I never got VOSA'd.
Final point is that "don't crash" is easy to say when 1 in 5 people crash in their first year of driving. Crashes can happen even when you want to prevent them.
I think it's an interesting discussion

You use the extra power for when your flying through the countryside, with your mate in tail tryna keep up

Theres not really a set "use the power here" but more of a "theres a time and a place, and here isnt one" kinda thing? if that makes any sense... So having a bit of fun on your way home at 2 in the morning on the country roads is the sorta time to use the extra power

Plus as my dad always says, having that extra bit of power always helps to get out of tricky situations, like when your 2 lanes feed into one and the person beside you decides to speed up to stop you getting in, or when your stuck behind the person doing 29.5mph, the extra power helps you pass them

Not forgetting our old volvos need to shut up all the lil cretins in their 1.2 corsas with exhausts big enough to fit a baby in....
Here you go, charlie had an engine for sale, see if he's still got it
http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... =8&t=12665
But you'll then need the bellhousing etc which i think someone else has for sale in another thread
...Here it is lol
http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... f=8&t=6092
He might have sold it, but no harm in asking
Hope this helps! Thomas..........

yea I've noiced this "diesel" thing catching on! you may have load of torque low down but surely its a problem when the revs go high, which is inevitable when skidding really! that mercedes estate is awesome! i think it has a turbo from a scania lorry or something like that, i love how everyone points and gasps at it! the sound is brutal aswell. I've had alot of fun with my 1.4 in the wet.
when it comes to inurance each to their own really, I think its alot of common sense and self control on the drivers part. You need to make the personal decision whether to do it or not.
you lose alot of peace of mind when you do it though, because you've got to remember no matter how careful you are-someone could crash into you, swings and roundabouts
