It seems a shame but I am also out of the running as I'm not prepared to bid blind as it could be an expensive mistake.

I'll bid blind or semi-blind on things (that's how I bagged the '82), but the money on the table would be a lot less than that.

Thats nuts. I would have gone up to £200 blind maybe but not £780. Especially without MOT or Tax. Mines just gone up in value to £1000 then as it has 6 months tax and test! I suppose if the seller says no serious rust and you get there and it's a dog you can walk away, on the grounds of 'not as described'? But even so that would be a good price hike for a mint one never mind a lowish mileage good but worn one.

Well I found out that the car won't be relisted as the new owner came across from Wales to collect and trailer away yesterday. Must have really wanted it so presume it has gone to a good home.
I've been trying to increase my chances of findng one by putting "wanted" notices in the local shops and post offices..well you never know!

Hi, I'm in Stockport, Cheshire.

I have just made enquiries about this little 340 that has just come on gumtree. The seller has offered me first refusal on it as I think I was the first person to phone about it. I am definitely willing to travel to get it if it's any good. I don't have much of a budget to spend so this fits the bill for me totally plus it has a 12 month MOT and is a 3 door which is what I was looking for. It has had a fair few owners but that doesn't worry me if it has been well looked after.

If anyone lives close to Cambridge who would be willing to give it a look over first I would be very grateful. Or any tips on what I should check when I go to see it?

Rust, rust and rust! Rust on the sills (particularly the rear), front and rear valances, rear chassis rails as they come round in a sort of 'c' shape towards the back of the car by the rear axle. If it's relatively rust free, then the 1.4 is pretty bullet proof really! See if the seller can send you some pictures
