At a rough guess Foggy will now run 16.9-17.1.

This is based on a traffic light drag race we had whereby he pulled a car length on my 960 at the start (due to him being manual) and then stayed in exactly the same spot up to 85mph when I started to overhaul him.

As the 960 runs 17.3 @ 80mph I reckon he'll be a few tenths of s second quicker. When he gets around to fitting his e-fan(s) and a free flow exhaust I think he'll run high 16's.

Yeah, I think that seems about right to me too... Foggy needs to go up against some VTR's and kick saxo ass :)

free flow exhaust, yes, but not e-fans. Not much difference if at all, once up to about 30 mph, the fans windmill and use v little horsepower.

perhaps it actually gives power BACK to the engine??

I thought it must've made a fair difference... especially as the e fan conversion was available with the R-Sport tuning kit on the B14 before they had electric fans as standard

Maybe with the solid shaft fans a few bhp were lost, but I found this quote from the net:

'The Dyno shows about a 25hp loss at maximum RPM's..standing still. Go figure..its on a Dyno. This estimate decreases as vehicle speed increases(more air flow). As far as your question of the fan clutch engaging and disengaging... Open your hood, and try spinning the fan.(MOTOR OFF OF COURSE!!) Not exactly free-moving... Granted, it is far better than a solid shaft, but not the same as one sitting motionless.'

Also, in my experience, the fan clutch is hardly engaged unless the car gets really hot standing in traffic. I know because I can hear the difference in the roar lately when I pull off after pootling in traffic on the North Circular at 4 mph with the A/C on. In that case you're going to have the electric which will use just as much if not more power and create an electrical drag on the alternator.

Yeah, I've got the quickest 360....until Mr Strong or Mr Higgins show up....or if we're including 340s, I'm dead meat if a certain Mr Husky is there :)

Having said that, if it was an engine noise 1/4 mile, I'd be running a 12 :)

Glad you're pleased with it Chris. We'll have to have a chat regarding tuning ideas. I can see Chris vs Steve being the GLT performance grudge-match of the next year or so!

cheers

James
