Awesome work - people have swapped the engine for less. I think I sorted mine by turning a screw.

I had the same problem but this was only a partial cure, it kept comming back. Its a rubbish design, 940 has a similar problem but has 2 seals, I've only ever had hesitation in the 940 (except when the bonnet seal leaks on the disty). it has awesome torque when the disty has just been cleaned.
Bubbles not strictly a problem but sucking air in means its leaking and may eventually get bad enough to starve the carb of fuel.

haha so i'm back again with a similar issue that has only just started today.
So now on long hills engine is starting to splutter before cutting out ( note only on long hills - fine on flat roads or downhill- and only after a little while on the hill) I've checked my dizzy cap and all is fine in there as i replaced the cam seal a couple of weeks ago.
So this leads me to belive the engine is being starved from fuel, all lines are fine with no leak, so my assumption is it must be the fuel pump, or something within the carb - fuel bowl/floats issue? Its not getting enough fuel i think?
Is there anyway of diagnosing between the two, before i either rebuild my carb or buy a new fuel pump?
Also my carb has been replaced with the weber version, would anyone know the model by any chance, i haven't spotted any model numbers on there.
As always, any help appreciated!!
