Think quiet zones up here are top gear/dipped lights-minimum disturbance.
Also had short sections where dipped lights applied still ok to go for it-think it was to stop lighting up too many bedrooms-fair crack suppose-it ain't everyones cup of tea.
Lessons learnt
1) buy a clipboard
2) rig up some netting on pass door card for all the paperwork-there seemed am awful lot from where I was lookin'
3)listen to nav
4) fit electric window to pass side( is that poss)
5)tape tax disc down
6)drive quicker
7)try and get some +1" uprated springs-that paddy hopkirk plastic sumpshield took a beating
8)fit 13" rims to rear and 3.82/1 diff-might get a bit more usable 3rd gear in the twisties
Still all in all good night out

I think the Blue Book says something like: "auxillary lights must be distinguished in quiet zones'. Of course, organisors can add to that - like dipped lights only in your case.
Down here its always been spots off for 'Quiet' and down to dipped when specifically asked (ie 'Dip' board or set out in the finals).
I'm gonna wire mine up to the front fog switch at some point so I've got the option to run main beams only!
Listening to the nav (or not as the case may be) has always been my problem

When we get to a junction I'm always asking her where I should be going, despite being told 200m in advance
I'm hoping to get out on a 12 car sometime in the near future before I take Fioner off the road to beef her up a bit!

Been ages since I've done a proper event

I'd be very keen indeed to get a sump guard made up! The tougher the better!
I've got an old flimsy one left over from my XR4x4 that I keep meaning to put under the car to see how it fits.

Was only kiddin-there is some sort of plastic guard under the front of my B plater-probs more for water getting in/engine fluids gettin out
It took a hammering on those roller coaster bits-when the susp gets out of sync with the road-bottoming out is not good
IF anybody cobbles a sumpie up let's see some pics please

I was talking about DVLA / MOT rules for lights on the road, you know, arn't there rules about positions of lights, and I wasn't sure about someone saying before that you couldn't use driving lights with dips

Yeah, I'm pretty sure cant use driving lights with dips, but they would still be wired in to come on with the main beam, just a switch put on the feed wire so you can turn them off and just have main beam with no driving lights. Probably not the best description, but hope that made sense!
You can use fog lights on dipped beam (when its foggy!!), but there are rules on the position of them in relation to the height from the ground, or summat like that. AFAIK driving lights can be put anywhere (within reason - like not facing backwards

)

Just to confirm.
The driving/spot lamps Must only go on when main beam is activated and must go off when you are using dipped headlights.Any other config is illegal,
If you wish to stay legal, all bulbs you fit to your car must be E marked in the european union.
front fog lights should only be used with dipped headlights
you should never use high beam in fog because the fog acts like a wall and reflects the high beam back in your face if that makes any sense,
try it , you can actually see further with dipped beam than high beam in fog whether or not you have fog lights

That's just what I was wondering about Mick

Dipped headlights are indeed the only way to go in fog.

Sometime you can actually see more with just sidelights and foglights too. Not sure how legal that is though

You have to be registered on Britishrally.com to read anything there.
To clarify the lighting rules:
Fog lights can only be on with Dip beam
Driving/Spot lights can only be on with main beam
I don't think the sidelight/foglight combination is technically legal
All auxiliary lights must be in matching pairs, equal distance from the side of the car, and there are limits on the height of fog lights.
For rallying:
You must have a maximum of 4 forward facing beams
Any auxiliary lights must be extinguished in Quiet zones, and some events or specific instances require dipped beam.
I have a copy of the blue book sitting on my shelf, and several spare copies, if anyone wants anything looked up (or wants to borrow a copy if you're in the area)
