and we all know where theres a nice cheap 360 going , dont we lads
obviously if i were to take this route i would be junking the rubber band system. and using a proper auto box
but would be keeping the rear axle just for the cheap ness but would be a semi daily driver as i also have a 2nd generation chevy camaro weekend kinda car with a baby 3.8 ltr v6
so thats why the idea of plonking in a 6 or 8 as they are cheap enough and if you want bur out ability then thats the way to go!
but what can be done to the classic no frills 4 pot over head valve machine to spark it up a bit even with the auto box? just out of intrest
If you're going to use a gearbox that comes with the engine, and assumingly do some hacking of the transmission tunnel and have it front mounted... then I can't see it being possible using the rear axle of the 300 because of its original transaxle layout.
But would i be correct in assuming that the connection after teh rubber band system is londitudually connected thus still having a centeral connection ie one straight line from engine to axle in the form of propshaft and rubber band cotton reel system.
Soo if you negate teh elastics then plug straight into the rear axle?
I saw couple years ago in finnish hotrod-magazine an article. One guy had putted in his 240 wagon Volvo a small-block V8 chevy engine
It was awesome!! There was still extraspace in engineroom...
Exterior were original-look except 17" alloy wheel and douple exhaust in back.True sleeper
And ive seen many VW beetles/bugs with V8 fitted in front of the car..
You might have then first Volvo 340 with V8 in europe or in world
the old custom chrome irs would look sweet but too much work to convert from leaf rears with over sized tyres and the other usual rodders favorite the volvo rear axle as has been used in many a custom rod.
since the volv can take a lot of stick and more, so if its there why throw it out!
rover v8.....£250
lt77 box (sd1 manual)...£100
ford english axle assembly....£100
new prop....£200
me to fabricate engine mounts, gearbox tunnel, fit axle wire up etc....£1000
job done fella!!!!!!
put rovers in loads of cars and trucks!!! and i think its lighter than a 1.7 as well cos its all alloy!!
Whats wrong with spending money?
we all have to some time or other!
ok it is a bit ott but then how much is spent on hot rods and custom cars in the uk and besides if i sell my 3.8 v6 1980 chevy camaro what am i going to replace it with ehy!
Who needs new cars, say for example buying a second hand decent fiesta corsa, £3k, the would buy you any decent volvo and have a lot left for personal touches, say £300 300 series, £1500 for engine drive train and brakes, then £500 for wheels interior and sound, and the £700 left for insurance and running costs!!
The only disadvantage is that they arn't quite as safe as newer cars, although being bigger, I'm sure that they'd rival some competitors such as Ka's, and they're much safer than equivilents from the same time.
And RWD If only running a car wasn't so expensive, I'd have my own 300 straight away
