replace all the bolts in your car w/ zip ties (maybe not rod bolts).

hmm. maybe a few.
remove the tar like insolation etc under the carpet.
if you dont use a/c, yank it. same with the p/s.
dont use the windshield washers? remove.
replace spare tire and tools w/ fix a flat.
any spare crap in the back (we all got junk in our trunks, hehe)
really need back speakers?
remove armrests
need a passenger mirror?
passenger sunvisor?
hole saw to hood underside bracing
hole saw bumper aluminum backing
remove center/ hub caps
powerwash the under carriage
all little stuff, but eventually it'll add up.

Hi guys,
Been away for a while...anyone know how I can reactivate my old account? (ivan141).
But on the subject of weight-loss for the volvo:
I personally noticed the difference very well in my trackday volvo. It pulls a lot stronger and responds better to throttle inputs.
What we did:
-complete interior strip (seats, panels, headliner, parts of the dash)
-removed rear bumper (which had a big heavy pullbar in it).
-removed insulation (tar mats & firewall insulation).
There is still room for improvement, but this already helped a great deal.
My own ideas for further weight reduction:
-lexan windows
-FRP bonnet&hatch (that hatch is a heavy bastard!)
-removing all window mechanisms, side impact bars (latter only when a rollcage is present, since we use this car on the street as well).
All this really takes a big chunk out of the total weight. The seats alone are heavy enough, but the insulation exceeds 10 kilo's easily I think. I put it all in bags when I took it out, and it was heavy. Replacing front fenders IMO is a waste of time and money. Steel fenders are pretty light by themselves.
If your thinking of removing weight for your daily driver: dont....it's not worth all the noise and trouble. I liked the car better when it had it's interior but I really need it to go fast.
Still have a B21ET weighing it down too....my co-driver just started work at a volvo dealership so hopefully I'll get that sorted out soon (it's now lying loose in the passenger compartment).

I'm given to understand that 1 gallon of petrol weighs about 3.5kg. Maybe this explains why some people insist on keeping their fuel levels to the absolute minimum???
[edit]Sorry James...

If you own a 360 then this isn't always by choice

Keeping fuel levels at a minimum wreaks havoc on laptimes in the 360.
Anything less than 3/4 full ends up in power loss due to fuel surge. Taking out the bigass fueltank and dropping in a nice racing unit would solve the problem, but I think the position of the fueltank is actually pretty nice on the stock tank (and you'd have to mount the racing tank up higher). If you want to drive with a low fuel level you'll need to use a buffer tank+extra fuelpump...

What do you mean by the B21ET weighing you down? What do you plan to do to reduce the weight? If it's what I think you mean, I have a statistic for you that you're probably not expecting, but we'll see...
Fuel surge with the tank less than 3/4 full? Never heard that one before! How does it manifest itself?
cheers

Hmm...must have had too much coffee at work.. bit confusing post.
The B21ET weighing the volvo down at the moment is lying loose in the space where the passenger seat usually sits. It's long overdue for installation, but my other car needs more attention at the moment, and will continue do do so until it's done. Those redblock engine's are seriously heavy lumps though. Me and my brother (big and dare I say strong guys) had trouble lifting the B21 together. I could lift the 1.6l engine in my corolla on my own, and that thing puts out more power than the stock B200 in the volvo (just for the sake of comparison...I've never lifted any engine's other than the B21ET and the toyota 4AG).
I fully intend to kick the B21ET out to storage for the next month so I can take the 360 racing in march.
About the fuel problems...I'm not english so I might have misused the term surge, but what I meant is that the fuelpump isnt pumping any fuel due to lateral forces while cornering.. This results in a sudden powerloss while trying to get the most out of those old slicks we're using. This problem rears its ugly head pretty early. Just ask any of the dutch 360 cup drivers, they allways start with full tanks to keep this problem at bay.
I guess the tank isnt properly baffled for sporty driving.

My friend drives rallyclass called rokkiralli (its Finnish rallyclass and little bit same as rallycross). He has Volvo 360 rallycar and it weights about 700-750kg..He has removed ALL interior and everything what car doesnt need to starting and driving
He have maybe 160-170hp but damn it is fast like rocket!!
Sorry..OT

750 kg's sounds amazingly light for a 360... I doubt if I'd ever manage to get it that light without going for a lighter engine. But then it doesnt matter all that much... It's all just a hobby anyway, no need to go gung-ho with modifications to make the car better. Cheap modding is what the 360 is all about.

that noise dampening stuff/ insulation mats are seriously heavy...
a body without any other parts weighs only about 300-350 kg....

I get you Ivan

Curious about the pump...hmm...not at all sure why that would be. Surely the pickup is in the bottom of the tank?
