Yeah, clutch is the main favourite for this one, particularly if the graunching noises are coming from the front.

Now its time to take your pick. To dismantle the clutch on a 360, engine out or gearbox out?

Can I make a personal appeal? That's a VERY nice example, and a fairly rare one. Resist the temptation to wreck it, please. I'm talking in terms of stacking it into a ditch when sideways. There are a lot of scrappy examples which are perfect for that job.

If I were you, I'd run that car as a daily driver (assuming you don't have anything else for that job), and pick up something a little more 'disposable' for drifting. I'd also not weld the diff on an occasional drifter. An LSD isn't that far away all being well...be kind to the halfshafts

And if you want to sell it...well I nearly bought it when it was on eBay...

don't worry , i accept the fact its a minter the car will not be modified to hell , and any mods i do will be reversible.

Its fixed now , the bolt on the rear of the torque tube had gone missing , so i have replaced it and welded the end in with a little tack.

Whats this u mention about an LSD? I am interested.

I called Quaife, and they wanted £600/ea if we ordered 10. I laughed.

I'm trying to work out what's already out there which will be a drop-in. Volvo bought the diff units in, so I bet my arse (hands off, Chris...) that something already popular in motorsport uses the same diff. We'll probably find every Chevette LSD in the country being bought up in about 6 months

For example, 240s use a Dana 30 axle unit, which accepts an LSD for a Jeep.

Quaife charge about the same money for a mk1 Golf/Scirocco unit - and there's a bigger market for those. I guess they would argue that the money reflects the quality of engineering and materials put into their units. I've heard folk say that Quaife LSD do not fail, ever...

I would consider paying 600 big ones at some point in the future, especially once my engine upgrade occurs (whenever that'll be)

I'm probably willing to spend about half that...there are worse cars for spinning them out, especially with decent tyres and some suspension upgrades.
