Re: Black sheep ???

Post by 990 »

mac wrote:Oh dear Oh dear, havn't been a member for 5 mins and already I seem to be the 'black sheep'. I seem to be upsetting the cartel !!, by the crime of posting items on the bay.

OK - facts:- When I started e-baying I was not a member of V3M - it was contact though the bay that led me here (even though I no longer have a 340 at present)

If my only wish was to maximise my return on items I have collected over nearly 30 years - why did I join ??
Not every 300 owner is a member of V3M - why deny potential members the chance to obtain hard to find parts ??

Whilst I do not run a 340 at present (I have a 940 Turbo estate and the wife has a '97' 440GS) I think the 300 series is one of the most underrated vehicle from any manufacturer full stop. I am also long term Volvo enthusist and until I retired I worked as an investigative engineer for Volvo Car - I have been to Helmond and the Born factory many times.
I am a long term member of the Volvo owners club and in the late 70's my custom CF van ran a B28 volvo fuel injected V6 !! - so please don't think I am only inerest in the profit motive.

What I can offer is a lot of tech.info. and 30 years of experience and I will do whatever I can to help any other member. If its info I can e-mail or just another viewpoint on a problem. This costs nothing !! I am already trying to help some of you (ask 990).

I am truly sorry if my posting MY items on the bay offends anyone - but I live in the real world - and an auction is a resonably fair way of doing business. I actually find your cartel a little offensive !

Well the problem will go away soon as I don't have an unlimited supply of goodies - perhaps some of you expect me to cancel my membership but sorry I'm here to stay. Perhaps in the future I'll run another 300 and I at least won't bitch about buying parts from wherever I need !!

OK I've had my bitch (at the risk of offending more of you).

PS don't be so damned patronising about students !!!

Regards to all of you (should be us), and expecting to be flamed.
MAC.
Yes I can confirm that mac has offered me a lot of assistance (of which I am very glad of).
I did have a go at the e-bay items, but the bidding was a little fierce, however that is an auction and so be it.

I can't blame mac for e-baying the items - as I recall the gentlemans agreement was between the people bidding on the items and not the person selling (member or not).
If a non member outbids us then so be it (that is what you are saying isn't it pettaw?)

mac I do not believe you are listed as a black sheep, it's more amongst the people bidding from here on the gentlemans agreement.

There I thinks thats it - as I saw it anyway :)

The big question is -- who are all of these people with 300's buying these parts - and why are they not on V3M!

I will be very suprised if this turns into a flaming thread as thats not what we are really about. this is a pretty friendly forum :D

Thats a relief, the agreement stops people here who need/want one paying a fortune bidding against someone here (with a different e-bay name) who might already have one and thought they would have a spare :)

I am wondering who Bardic-Uk is - they have bid on every item mac has put up so far

@Mac,

do you have any specific CVT / 3 series knowledge?

I am still scavenging for factory documentation (volvo archive drawings) on ignition curves, detailed info on the differences between the wire looms for certain models etc; in short: the interesting stuff which the repair manual editors left out :-)

greetings Wouter

PS know of Matthew Stapper and/or Antoon v Mullekom? they both have worked for volvo in Helmond as well.

Hi Mac,
First time I've seen you on here so welcome from me.
I do think you have missed the point of the discussion here. We have had a long standing agreement here NOT to outbid eachother on ebay items - first come first served.
There is no problem with you selling 300 parts on ebay.
RandomHero just wanted to point out to us He was First on this item.
As far as I am conserned keep listing on ebay.

As to not out bidding each other lets stick to it.

Only just read this post. Sorry about the lamp brackets Mick :( In the end I was an idiot and didnt get to my PC in time for the auction end and missed out on them, so I didnt get them.

If you notice I'm bidding on anything (csg100 on ebay) feel free to ask me if I really need them, chances are I'll just be buying somethign as a spare or thinking 'oh, that might be useful for the future'. If someone else desperately needs/wants it I'd happily move over and let them bid away.

And Mac, you're certainly not a black sheep. Everyone is welcome here, I'm sure most members have got muchos respect for you and all the knowledge you have clearly gained over the years. Personally, you've given me a couple of parts I've wanted for a while so in my book you're a top bloke!

Oh, and I aint no slacking, smelling student type :P ;) Ebay is blocked at work so I only check outside work times, although I do check most days for Volvo, Manta and MR2 parts, being the sad git I am!

The 'gentlemans agreement' was simply put in place to avoid friends bidding against each other and potentially creating a difficult situation where the one with deeper pockets always wins the interesting items. It was in no way intended as a means of scamming items out of sellers at a cheaper price. Some people abide by it, some don't.

I tend to work on the basis that I'll pop a bid in early on to 'secure' it against friends who might buy it, but if I really want it, I'll have it, unless the high bidder is a friend.

For what it's worth Mac, if in doubt, assume any potentially offensive comments are intended to be tongue in cheek, and that they are made in the context of a long-running joke. This is an extremely friendly forum, but we have two very general unwritten rules which make life fun for all....
1) Don't do anything to annoy your fellow members (e.g. blatently outbidding / sniping them on eBay)
2) Anyone is fair game for mickey taking (e.g. Mick being an old git!) sm56

Welcome Mac, your knowledge is very much appriciated - as are your interesting items for sale. I might well have a bid myself on some of the items coming up this week. Feel free to drop me a PM with any rare forthcoming items you might have lurking, as I'm always on the look-out, and have a position of authority to maintain when it comes to always having the coolest parts sm56 sm56 sm56

cheers

The clutch adjusted itself about 2" within 150 miles the other day...must look into that...sm56

Note that the mileage keeps clocking round :-P Started at 182k in December, the target, of course, being 200k.

I'm certainly thinking about it...

...although it'd make most sense to put them in the 240 (the control kit, that is...I'd have to find shocks elsewhere), since my 360 is being relieved of 'heavy lifting' duties. Someone here should definitely buy this lot - very cool gear.

cheers

I was tempted, it is cool gear, but not for what I want it for :( The ability to pretend to be a citreon is appealing, as I can stop pretending to be a renault, but I want sports shocks, not caravan shocks (what I need and sensible is quite different)

And I want you to get that 360 running again Foggy... then I may make it to 200k before you ;)
