Sounds good James, leave the lifting points on the engine though. We'll need that to lift the engine out. Good work on the 240. And tow truck drivers.......

I've only seen that sort of mess once before and that was a couple of hours after a very dodgy curry lol

what a couple of days.

all this, the 700 is now starting to go wrong and I have lost all of my halford tools.

When Rupert started a conversation regarding how realiable all our cars were, it was tempting fate but even so, not sure I expected a week this bad.

Somehow I find bit relieving that my car sits tightly on parking lot with insurance on hold and 2 ltr of non flammable gas in tank

Oh and it seems there is now 10cm of snow too, it has summer tires on, so it is staying there until snow melts at spring :)

What's up with the 740?

Clutch started to slip on the way into work today, granted it only happen at full throttle but it is a new clutch so need to find out what is causing that. It also have a very strange vibration underneath. Sounds like the exhaust is about to fall off, that and it has started blowing at the rear box section.

its a wonderful life sometimes. nevermind, it still runs which is a start.

wow! never seen a 1.4 do that before!!

Rover K series tend to pop their head gaskets ( frequently as well ) in quite spectacular fashion resulting in that gunge in the coolant and the oil. Saw one the other week at my friends workshop.

Either the gasket has poured most of coolant into the oil or something else as Pettaw said had caused it to go like that... has that come out of the crankcase breather? I guess thats it only way out once it pressurised...

I think the bottom seals tend to leak first rather than pop but you never know....

Im glad pettaw knows what I mean about the allen keys! Thanks rupert for the info, so the engine came out recently or the mounts? should make things easier there then. I've pullled engines from 19 year old and 15 year old 340s and 30 year old 66s... with the right tools the mounts should be ok to remove.

Im 100% up for coming along... looking forward to it

want me to bring anything??

re engine lifts, Ive hired from HSS on two occasions. £30 for the day... great!!!! a bit awkward to go into a 340.. getting it over the rear sill... you got the 240 james? should make collecting the lift sinch

you do need a lift for a 1.4 esp for putting the engine back in. it needs to go at an angle to get the clutch housing under the bulkhead, getting it sitting right on its mounts also needs so little movements with a lift to get it in right so a lift is a good idea

what time you guys starting on sunday?? just so I know when to head of from manc!!

hope to hear from you soon

So I leant Ryan my 240 to use to go to work in, and he's managed to break that too! That's my story and I'm sticking to it...:) The old radiator union cracked, and Andy heroically bodged the hose back on, but today it let go for the second time, and Ryan couldn't get it to seal again.
Since it had cracked a bit more! two cars in two days. I'm not having a good week and my workplace are loving taking the mick today.

The bellhousing (and therefore the rear bolts...bar the rounded one) were off in February. The front mounts haven't been off.

Yes, that all spewed out of the breather, which I had removed from the airpan, as it had filled the airpan and subsequently the carb with that mess, causing it to misfire badly.

cheers

James Just buy a £100 Ebay special 340GL.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1988-VOLVO-340-DL ... dZViewItem

This one will do nicely, charge a £10 entrance fee to ya party and its paid for.

£10 is a small price to pay to not have to swap an engine.

I'll bring my tools with me to help fix nessy.

No good Pete, Nessy won't burn as there'll be no fuel in it...........

I vote we do a Hugh and cut the roof off it. Then fill it with charcoal and there's the BBQ!
