Just an idea - why dont you put in a Non 300 for sale section? Everyone has the odd bit of junk to sale that people on here might be interested in (Micks Golf for example ;)).

When I come to sell my 2 non 300 cars I'd like to think I could list them on here in case people were interested in them before I offered them to the masses, afterall we're all friends aren't we?

Sorry if you misunderstood me Mick, what I meant was why is it in the '300 offer' section and not the 'general discussion' section? It's not a 300, or anything that could be of use to a 300 (renault 16v engine for example) so I feel both threads should be in our unofficial 'off topic' section.

I appreciate that members here may know someone who wants a Golf and that advertising it here could lead to a potential sale, but a simple " Hey chaps, I have two VW Golf's for sale if anyone's interested or if anyone knows someone who wants one - PM or e-mail me for details" kind of thread in General Discussion would have sufficed instead of two large multi pic and full detail threads about a non Volvo.

Does it really matter?

I for one like it when something different comes up as i scope out the for sale threads in all the forums i'm on for bargains, struggling to find any one ebay anymore :D if there was a thread in general discussion about a golf i probably wouldn't look at it.

I've knocked Mick for his Golf obession in the past, mostly because I hate Golfs :P

But in reflection, I sincerely believe that less rules are better than more. Over-regulation sucks. You can apply this to all sorts of communities, but it's particulalry true in a community like this one.

So chill the f**k out :P :D

o.k Rupert point taken and I apologize for any misunderstanding .

but to be fair your actual words were

"May I ask what it's doing in the 'For Sale' section of a Volvo 300 related website? "

which does kind of imply it shouldent be on the site at all.

But there is no non volvo sales section at the moment and is the general discussion the right place to sell stuff ?

at least in the sales section you know an item is for sale and if you dont want or dont know someone who wants an item advertised, you know not to bother reading it

as I said this certainly isn't the first non volvo car advertised in this section .

perhaps the forum does need a seperate section for items for sale that aren't volvo related as Carl suggested.

personaally (and I know many others agree because they have said in there emails ) I think the site could do with a revamp ( and this is not a criticism of Aymat by any means ) time has moved on an awful lot since this forum started

take a look at overbore when you get 5 minutes.

http://www.overbore.co.uk/forum/

now I know overbore is not a one make site but perhaps we could adapt some of there sections to suit V3m

things like the lounge and the sandpit may not be to everyones taste but you get the idea , its well balanced with very clearly defined sections.

I think the other thing that annoys me is the badge / marque snobbery that often appears on this site .

comments like "peddle German tat." and "french fwd crap " appear too often on here for it to be funny anymore .

sometimes these comments are made in a fun way( yes Mr Farrell , I haven't forgotten ) but having been here as long as I have I usually know who is having a laugh and who is being serious.

Its one thing to be proud of a certain make or model of car

and yes we are all rightfully proud of owning or having owned a 300

but its another thing entirely and very narrow minded to slag anything and everything that isn't a volvo 300.

Rupert ,this is the first time I have known you " appear "do this , which is probably why I was so disappointed in your post and it could well have been meant in fun ( if so I am sorry )

but I really dont appreciate people putting down other cars ,whether they be mine or someone else's ,simply because they are not volvos or indeed 300's.

thst is why I didn't totally agree with Dalahare's post ( supportive as it was ) and clearly said I have no problem with Ruperts avatar his sig or indeed his right to be on this forum.

I have always found him to be a genuine ,knowladgable, fun loving
and open minded guy.

if we banned non 300 owners we would lose some truly nice people like Rupert ,Chesh , Mac and indeed me

I try to be very diplomatic and balanced in my posts and If I am having fun with someone I try to make that clear , (for example my post about Ruperts eurovision thread ) I do not think I have ever slagged down , patronised or been rude to any one on this forum or criticized anyones car ..

Vive la difference

My post carried a certain amount of sarcasm, that is always hard to get across online, i was merely pointing out he was being slitghly hypocritical in my own silly way.

Yes, this is the trouble with forums, you often can't be sure if someone is being serious or sarcastic. :P

My view: This is a Volvo 300 site, which should be focused towards Volvo's, and 300's more specifically, however, I have no problem with occasional off topics. If someone is selling their other car which isn't a 300, I have no problem with them mentioning it here. I must say though Mick, you have advertised rather more than one Golf ;).

However I agree very strongly with Ronnie. Over-regulation sucks, and we need to just let some things go. It's a clearly titled topic, so just ignore it if your not interested.

I don't think we need new forum sections for this kind of thing as that would just encourage more non 300 stuff. Personally I think we need to just keep things as they are; keep the site Volvo based, but with other stuff allowed in moderation :)

Most important thing, lets not fall out about this kind of thing :)
