I am hoping to go again on Sunday as i also need a rocker cover. I will ask him what he's got. The only complete car is a late mk3. If i go i'll let you know yes or no.

Sorry Dai no tailgate glass. Most of the 340 spares he has got have pretty much had it anyway. Couldn't get a rocker cover either in a worse state than mine, the plastic T breather has broken. I did manage to get a retro brown parcel shelf! it looks terrible but will do for now.
The car is now idling ok. I stripped the carb down again measured the float heights, all ok, and put some redex directly into the float bowl. What i did notice was the pin holding the float was further out one end than the other, i think it has been jamming because it wasn't on straight. I will wait and see. Have used the car today and seems alot better

That plastic breather pulls out mate, and a new one that isn't brittle is only a couple of quid from memory from the stealers.
That pin you mention should be completely free to move side to side, it's the sides of the fuel bowl that holds it in. Were the floats really really free too?

I didn't realise it was still available as i don't have a local dealer. I have bodged it for now!!.
I may well be wrong about the float pin, but it is the only thing i can think of that i did to make it idle.

Right, now i'm totally confused, car has been running fine for the last two weeks until this afternoon on the way home when the old problem returned but this time cutting out when i slowed down. Got it home, just, shuffled cars about so i could use the drive started it up and it idled fine!!. Took the carb apart anyway weighed and changed the float and needle valve took it for a run, all ok, i don't think the problem is carb related. I'm now thinking it could be the ecu with a gremlin unless anyone else has any ideas.

The dizzy cap is new, but i will check it. I am wondering if the fuel pump is on its last legs, but there again being mechanical surely it would do it all the time, unless there is something floating about in the inline fuel filter that periodically blocks the outlet pipe. New filter is worth a try.
