I deserve it! Being the register keeper and not having any 300s which are both roadworthy and working (except the 343!) isn't good...

First thing I did when the 'Driver' arrived was look to see if His Foggyness had a Register Keeper's report in. It's a great piece; well written sir.

I'm at those crossroads just now. The MOT test is on Monday and it is with a heavy heart that I've decided not to spend much money on the car. If it can get though for a few hundred quid and provide another year of motoring, I'll be delighted. However, I can't afford to throw the necessary money at the bodywork, etc., to keep it in the condition that it deserves.

I'd like nothing more than to be able to have the 340 as a hobby car; keep it dry and get the work done. However, in our circumstances it isn't possible. We have on-road parking and can only afford to run one vehicle. As noted, keeping a 340 in good condition as a daily driver now requires considerable effort. As much as I love the car, I'm suspecting that it may be time to bid the model a fond farewell after nine happy years of ownership.

Anyhow, I suspect that the Redline will fail its MOT on quite a number of points, not least of which is some rather nasty looking corrosion on the crossmembers. Add in the cost of a new exhaust and probably a replacement/re-built carb, plus sundry other things, I've prepared myself for the worst. However, it is really good to know that there are guys like yourselves who are looking after a few examples, whether or not they are being driven.

Gavin , rather than spend a load of hard earned on Roly why not consider another 300 with a years ticket and use some of roly's parts to tart it up hence roly will live on ,

Yeah, this is the problem. I worry too much about our 340, so a scruffy one that could actually be used with less worry would be great, but as you say, expensive

Gavin - if you like the cars, I'd suggest you get another. I only moved away from running them as everyday cars because I was beginning to find it problematic - image (for work), lack of toys like AC, etc.

If you get a good enough example, they still do quite well against more modern metal. Before I dug the bondo out of Nessy's pillars, it was a very quiet car...and my 360 is only noisy because some of the seals are shot. Add a few creature comforts to a mint car, and you'd be laughing.

If Rory ends up being broken for parts, give me a shout...I'll make sure almost nothing goes unused.

I must admit I have been in the ground 'em into the ground type of owner. Before I had these cars I would buy any old thing. Having discovered the 300 I found they were better all round .When they failed their MOTs I saw so many for sale in these leafy shires around here I only had to travel to an advertisement say thirty miles away and there was someone wanting to pass one on. Now with a promising couple of cars, a lockup rented garage, a bicycle to go to work on and an equal dislike of local authorities use of salt at -0.5 degrees of "frost" , I am actually going to apply some rust proofing at last and take my time a bit more Underlying it all I just want to keep the car going
