Cheers for the jetting info Kaos and thanks for the advice Garth.
Does anyone know where I can get hold of 360 suspension and fuel tank? It seems a far more sensible place to put it.
I'v heard that their allowing road rally cars to enter the epynt challenge this year. Imagine the landing impact of a 340. BANG!!!!

Haven't they still got to be log booked? Road Rally Cars have been on Epynt before I believe. If you do it, i'll come and watch!

I've driven Epynt when we marshalled the Rally GB. If I remember correctly I was in my 360 GLT - great fun

To be honest, I'd not bother upgrading the carb. A twin 32mm carb is relatively generous for a 1.4. The 1.4 is quite highly tuned for such an old fashioned engine (i.e. pushrod) at 72bhp, and it can keep up with most modern 1.4L cars...although admittedly, there will be plenty of cars of a similar vintage which will be faster, as there were plenty of things smaller and lighter back in the day with 1.4 lumps. Remember a 300 is the size of a BMW E30, and only a touch smaller than a Sierra, etc.
If you want to play with the power side of things, I'd perhaps consider replacing the airpan (it's prone to pulling the carb apart due to its weight, plus it's not a brilliant design) and exhaust (although go easy....we want to retain some backpressure so the exhaust can do its thing and scavenge)...then focus on suspension!
These engines seem to very much dislike warm air, so a cold air feed for it might be useful. You could also try running it on 98 octane, and fitting an early Renix unit for a bit more ignition advance. Worth it? Probably not...
cheers
James

I fitted a cold air feed to my old 340 DL (first car) and it was fine in the summer but I had big problems in the winter when it just lost power and then died. When I moved the feed to behind the radiator it was fine, is this called carb freeze??

Sounds like carb freezing to me... Ali had the same trouble with his old 340

My fatthers mate got so obsessed with cold air feed on his carbs, when the weather turned, the car went like a bag o shite! Just too cold.

there was a lot of talk about the troubles with carb freeze especially when trying to fit K+N style filters,
theres a topic on here somewhere
oh and Bourton Volvo, off topic I know
but thats my favourite part of the world you live in
I spent most of my formative years in the cotswolds living with my uncle in Shilton ( down the road from the wildlife park ) and we still visit Bourton on the water whenever we take our caravan to Cotswold View up at Charlbury ,
I hope to retire to that area once the kids have all flown the nest

It is indeed a beautiful part of Britain with plenty of little lanes

any word on whether a carb change is allowed?
I considered doing this amongst other things but know that you'll never make a 340 competitively quick for enduro, the regulations are simply too restrictive and you'll be up against far faster things in your class.
It'll certainly be the most fun enduro car in the field though... if anyone's around Devon next weekend, my 340 will be pootling around putting bigger engined and better powered cars to shame.
Hope your project goes well though and hopefully see you out on a rally or two in the future.

I think I will talk to the MSA on the carb because we don't want to get it wrong.
I am in contact with the guy who did the Lombard and he had issues with the fuel tank (it was holed by a welsh rock).
Was the guy's surname Lloyd??If so I got some bits off him cage...etc.etc
Runs a cycle shop if my memory serves.

Somewhere (either me or Nick_C has it) I've got a part share in a DVD of one of the Lombards the guys did, and theres an interview with them as the nav was the youngest (father and son team). Theres a few useful shots of the car too... I'll see what I can do.
