Furthermore, what's wrong with your car? There is much expertise on here, and lots of people have spares lying around which could help? Or is it the dreaded welding?

Hi kids, Im in Newcastle.
Brunswick village, not far from the airport.

Lent the car to my mechanic/dad for a tune and new points, plugs, oil, general odd jobs etc etc on a friday, and was informed that there had been 'an underbonnet fire' on the monday afternoon.

Catastrophic Inferno Of Death would have been a better description.
fire took the engine and the front of the car.

Value of the car was near insurance eccess so im left with nowt.

If I wasnt already not paying my dad anything, Id sack him.
'it was probably kids'- says he.

'my arse' - says me.

Hopefully picking a new 340 (ie. old) up sooner or later.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for all your help.

Sour buzz mate, that's bloody terrible! So is it in Gosforth metals now then? Might be worth stripping a few parts if you still have it. Stuff like speedo cable is no longer available from volvo, so worth keeping in case it breaks on your next one.

its out the back of my dads lock up in Choppington. Looking like a joyridden shopping cart.
Going salvage what can be saved.
When I can bring myself to look at it/him. And when I get time to get the spanners out.
Its not going anywhere anyway. the nice men of the fire brigade made sure the interior got nice and wet so its as ruined as its ever going to get really.
Might just plant it on nuns moor and see if a volvo tree grows.

might be having petes from huddersfield at the weekend.
thatd cheer me up!

Cheers Pete!
Youre a gentleman.

I'm going to be sad to see the my 340 go but knowing that Ben's on here and benefiting from people's support and advice is a comfort.

I've managed to secure myself a low mileage 460 turbo auto with full service history to replace it so I'll fun, even if the insurance is more, the economy less and the rwd lacking :s
