Torrential rain all the way home.
The M25 was shut.

Those roads of yours, they just became very slippery by rain, don't they? So certainly crashes are then happening when people are not careful, good thing that you got home safely and nobody skidded into you on those roads.

I bet that quite soon memories of that trip are changed, in a year you are again ready to do that kind of trip, brain kind of forgets most of bad things by then

So how was the car and specially how was the carb? Any splutter or bogging?

I remember how my carb had slightly more than slight icing problem in damp cold weather, that was pretty annoying.

Oh yes, just remembered that it necessarily was not carb version, so how it was in reality?

Not sure if holidays count, but a group of friends and myself did 2000 miles travelling around the UK in my 1980 345DL just after leaving school in the late 80s. Can't remember how long it took, 1-2 weeks anyway. We just visited friends, and had a very full car, 5 big lads and luggage with roof rack. Car struggled but didn't mis a beat. Closest thing to a problem was, I left without a rear box and intended to get a cherry bomb weld on. Got a garage in Southport to do it, but they put a bracket really close to the rear axle with the brake pipe on it. With the full loading the bracket almost went through the brake pipe, but the trusty steel Volvo pipe held up well. I simply turned the bracket around when I discovered it.

When we stopped on the South coast somewhere to stay with one of the lads cousins I gave the Engine the once over, my mate said the spark plugs were the one and only time he'd ever seen ones that look like the 'ideal' picture in the Haynes manual. Petrol Engine love long journeys.

Longest single trip was about 500 miles from London to Belfast, but was in my 940 Turbo.
