Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
Hello all, updates again for you all. Been really busy trying to get the car sorted before winter.
15/10/16
Today was a nice very long drive with a trailer to get some part from Mac, Thank you Mac
photo_zpsqwyf9zzd by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161017_153905_zpsydokuapq by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161017_153915 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Also a nice new genuine sump gasket kit
20161017_185106_zpss3uai7u0 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
And the new windscreen fits
:D well it fits in the hole not tried with the seal yet.
17/10/16
So I started off today by POR'ing the inside of the car, now all the rust has been removed, only did the seating foot wells, boot will follow at a later date
20161017_110415 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161017_110421 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161017_110430 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
While this was drying i removed the front panel from the car, in preparation for the new one from Mac.
20161017_153814 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161017_153819 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
yes i have a conterweight system here of batterys and tyre lol
the new panel was cleaned up and POR'ed as much as i could get to with a brush
20161017_153832 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161017_153835 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
This used up the last of the POR, so more was ordered.
18/10/16
Today while waiting for the POR I cracked on with removing the rear valence to attend to the last hole...
20161018_091908 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161018_121618 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161018_121625 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161018_121644 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
As there was not POR yet, I cut out the rust and made the new bits ready for welding in.
20161018_153758 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161018_153808 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161018_153830 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
19/10/16
The POR arrived, so time to crack on
Repainted the inside footwells and bulkhead
20161019_101046 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
painted the inside of the rear light clusters, as far as i could get in
20161019_101059 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
noticed that the rear number plate has been repaired before.. badly.. probably me..
20161019_101115 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
as you can see with all the welding wire poking out the back...
Painted the box sections on the front ready for the front panel
20161019_101127 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_101131 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
While that was starting to dry I welded the bits in the the rear panel and welded up all the holes
20161019_110619 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_110624 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Then welded in the section for the rear light clusters
20161019_114820 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_120617 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_120618 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
cleaned up the welds on the rear valence
20161019_123254 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
And POR'ed it
20161019_124145 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_124151 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
I think the repair looks quite good
Again while that was drying, I offered up the new front panel, with the wings to make sure it all lined up nice which it did
20161019_142840 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_142844 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161019_142849 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Then started to weld in the chassis area enough to hold the front panel in place so the wings could be removed and then carried on welding the front panel on
20161019_171521 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
That was as far as i got, need to clean the welds up and POR, also need to fix the holes where the dealers just screw the number plates in to the metal instead of using the holes with plastics in, I have no idea why the dealers do this it really bugs me....
Next time is to weld in the rear panel, clean up welds, paint boot area and engine bay wit POR, repair the rust on the wings and POR.
then it will be on the POR'ing the underside and filler, she is getting there soon will be painting
Ben

Are you going to keep it as a 1.4 auto or do you have something tastier in mind?

Re: Duchess The Volvo 340 CVT
good evening all, a little progress and a big step back today
so for the bad, i broke my new windscreen
now for the progress:
15/11/16
I started off by wire brushing the whole front panel down, i was not to happy how the POR was sticking, or lack of
so cleaned of the weather strip and key'ed it better to allow the POR to stick better
20161115_132616 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161115_132621 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
Also welded up the side i missed and touched up a few little areas
20161115_132625 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
While that was drying i seam sealed the inside of the car...brushable seam sealer.....weird stuff

20161115_132640 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
20161115_132707 by Benjamin Charlton, on Flickr
And so i moved on the the job i have been putting off, wire brushing and POR'ing the underside, only removed what needed to be removed, it will all be undersealed in the end anyway
