I think that that is all provided that you don't drive like a tit on the public road to start with...Frits wrote:Don't agree with that...
If you have decent tires, on a normal pressure, your car is not gonna slide or understeer. Definately NOT. Roundabouts or whatever, it doesn't matter. It was the first thing wich I was very suprised about.
However, I've drivin a lot on open road with my welded diff (and even an at once power turbo engine) all the way to competitions and stuff. Had the most rainy days in my life and never had any kind of problem with my diff or sliding or understeering on open road of whatever.
I think Nikdev thinks the same about it.

bet it eats tyres fast though, but tbh I tend to take the wheels off and usually rotate them before every event anyway and expect you guys do too - not to mention that you do drift events which are naturally tyre abusing
I'm just a bit dubious about running a welded diff on a public road on a potentially daily basis (and thats supposing its welded properly - won't enter into the hazard of not having it done well!

I think with a combination of sloppy boat like suspension and dim power, mine will only go sideways in the soaking wet. Do you clutch kick yours? 1st is too short and just spins up an inside wheel. 2nd is better. I'm toying with the idea of mig specing her, but I don't want to be putting tires on all the time. Drivability is a must for me.
Nik, your 360 is an inspiration to me 10/10!

A diff lock, is basically an open differential that can be locked when desired (essentially making it act like a welded diff). It can be activated manualy, or I believe some can be automatic?
They are commonly found on 4 wheel drive vehicles, particularly on the diff that splits drive to the front and rear wheels, to improve traction on low grip surfaces.

Spent some more hours working on the old brick today. Finally got around to fit the oil cooler
Started with practicing my (bad) welding skills and made some brackets

Needed to cut away some metal from the bumper so it would get cold air, no mercy taken:

Finished with some holes:

With the cooler in place it looks like this:

Sorry to hijack.
i only clutch kicked in the begining when i was scared to open her up enough.
i could break traction in first gear very easily. i had the rev counter as well helping me 4K RPM in first gear and the wheels turned slightly and once it was clear to pull away bringing the clutch up gently would just drag and then swing the back end arround. So many times ive done it when my boss is in front of me just because i forget that at 4K she'll do anything in first!
i didnt find first gear too short myself it dragged on to 30mph 35 tops!
