K-cam, freeflow exhaust, Megasquirt with spark, bit lighter flywheel, there were not much of sound damping material, but I guess none of these have much else than few sheets of bitumen and nothing at boot?
Also mine is 3dr, so compared to sedan it is bit less weight.

Sorry for the slight thread jack, but is there much off an 88' 740 GLE (b230e) apart from the leather's worth keeping for my car. I might have a chance to buy a MOT failure for cheap then scrap it after i've got any decent parts.

I doubt even the seats are worth keeping mate. Unless you're planning to adapt the rails. The back ones won't fit.

Just to be clear, the car which ran a 17.0 was actually the same 1150kg 360 which ran the 18.7 (sans carbs). The 343RS is lighter, has more power (I threw away half the exhaust...and it really worked) and shorter gearing for mo' accelerations. No idea what effect that has exactly, but it kept up with a 940 Turbo (2.3) running 12psi of boost...so some effect...! Part of the effect is undoubtedly that the driver is obliged to lift off in order to bow down to the near limitless awesomeness...
740s are obviously heavier...but not as much as you might think. IIRC, a base-model 740 saloon only weighs about 1300-1350kg, so only 200 more than a 5-door 360. A turbo is presumably heavier, but I bet the different isn't more than 50kg. Or to put it another way, when I first drove a 240 GLT (B230E), it felt a lot more like the RS than a 360 GLT, pace-wise...
cheers

See previous post

That was the 360...taller gears, more weight, more exhaust.
Having said that, I expect your car will be faster. It's lighter and should have more power, so it ought to be faster. Might won't "be French" (i.e. explode) as often though
cheers

Ruperts weight of Foggys RS there is a little bit off, it would've been more like 1200kg Id've thought

A stock 5-door GLT is 1150kg, and a 3dr 360 is a bit lighter (1050-1100, from memory). I think a mk1 is probably marginally lighter than that, too. I expect it'd read about 1050 with a full tank.
cheers

It is 1075kg for 360GL so your memory is quite spot on, imo

I'd love to have a go at that quartermile standing start stuff
TBH more important for me though is a high(ish) cruising speed. My daily 360 will sit all day at 160 kph without making anyone nervous (my daily doesn't have a sunroof

) A bit more would be nice though ...

On the weight side the 940s are surprisingly light. My non-AC 940 Turbo weights about 1350kg I think, not insignificant but not half a ton either, granted the 6 cyl luxury model will be heavier. It is certainly alot quicker than any 360 I've driven and I've driven most years and models.
The 360 is more manoeuvrable and responsive, but the 940s rust proof, practical and more robust. My main grip about the 940 coming from 360s is there is no decent storage space inside. You can't get big stuff in the door pockets, no centre pocket or dash top storage and the glove box is a weird shape, but you can get a full size fridge/freezer in the back and close the door (if you remove the rear seats completely).
The 940s are plenty fun with extra power comming from a simple boost mod. Maintenance no real problems either, turbo overhaul every 130K miles or so is the only additional expense and maybe a bit of extra oil. Only real disadvantage is mpg... <25.
..of course I am building a 360 turbo though, I want to have my cake and eat it!
