with regard to the dehumidifier thingy ,I thought the job of a dehumidifier was to extract moisture from the air .
long term aren't you risking damage to some plastic parts , surely if there is no moisture in the air some parts may become brittle and break ?

Hmm, but the idea isn't to make the area entirely dry, just not damp. Anyway, new trim is easier than welding

Nothing like the damage you'll do to the metalwork, keeping it in a damp environment.
