with regard to the dehumidifier thingy ,I thought the job of a dehumidifier was to extract moisture from the air .

long term aren't you risking damage to some plastic parts , surely if there is no moisture in the air some parts may become brittle and break ?

just a thought

Hmm, but the idea isn't to make the area entirely dry, just not damp. Anyway, new trim is easier than welding :)

Nothing like the damage you'll do to the metalwork, keeping it in a damp environment.
