As long as it's running by then, we're planning to be there in the 700 AAAARRRRRR...hopefully to set a record for a brick at the Pod. I can't be bothered to run the 360 when it's not had anything done to it since it last ran. I have a deadline in May to have it running faster than a BX 16v and a Xantia Activa Turbo....
cheers

I tempted, specially as I seem to be free that weekend... will be intrigued to see what a stock 1.7 can do.

Might be able to pop along, won't be playing on the strip though, stock cars....... been there done it before! Unless anyone can convince them to let me run a vario in reverse for a laugh! Bet that'd get a bit wobbly trying to steer, or rather keep it in a straight line!
Yeah hope to be along.

Now that would be good, but as you say I dunno how stable it'd be at speed. I hope your good at reversing

65-70mph in reverse is going to end in tears, I think...
cheers

It would for sure! The steering would be more exaggerated, it'd probably need to be geared down to reduce sensitivity. I did look into what the world speed record is for a car in reverse, not just a body turned around on the chassis, proper reverse gear, and there's not much info! It seems as though one special vehicle did approx 90 mph ish from memory, but I'd imagine it had several reverse gears and was just built backwards in effect!
Nah I'm only kidding, the pod is too narrow to try it, and I bet they wouldn't be keen, it would be interesting on an airfield or wide open space though!

I may be wrong, but with the trailing wheels steering there's a very real chance of ending up flipping the car on it's roof, as it would take far less for the car to be going sideways and the "marine" suspension on a 300 isn't going to help at all!

Realisitcally I don't think I'm gonna be able to make it, much as I'd like to see the ARRRR pwn some more exotic machinery!

So far it's looking good for being there......... but you know how it is......... things can change! Want to be there to see a Volvo owning other stuff like Steve says, always good for a laugh. Just don't break it first!

As for going fast in reverse, i discovered the speedo works in reverese on the S80 today.
I got up to 50mph before chickening out, there was still a fair few more revs left but it was getting a little twitchy, but otherwise not too bad, just need to keep small imputs.

that doesn't surprise me tbh, isn't it just a digital counter on most modern cars? The faster the pulse - the higher the speed, it wouldn't make any difference which way the wheel is spinning (it wouldn't be able to tell!)

Thrust SSC was rear wheel steer, and that was stable enough

I guess it doesn't really help that you're facing the wrong direction either.
