Uh-oh. Today I was at work and had to go run some errands. But the car wouldn't start. Turns out the problem was the starting inhibit switch, or at least the relay doesn't get any volts on its coil. So, some thinking, and one piece of wire later, and it's running again... bypassed the inhibit relay in the fuse box.

So the question is... you have the gear selector lever already conveniently removed from the car. Can you tell if the inhibitor switch is just a simple microswitch or something more complicated? As I really wouldn't like to disassemble the thing just to find out I can't repair it with household parts.

^^^ the inhibitor lives in the fuse box in the engine bay, I had to remove mine to let it start when I converted to manual. I have the gear selector, and the inhibitor relay, but the wiring inbetween is buried and hard to remove.

Yes I already removed the inhibitor relay from the fuse box, like I said, that's how I got the engine started again ;) And it seems like a completely ordinary closing relay to me.

Tried to ask about the gear selector... because the information about P/N position has to come from somewhere, but where exactly? On the other hand I may just continue running with that wire link installed, I always start in N anyway.

I'll have a look at the selector, see if I can work out what does what.
