As to tyre sizes I was running 185/60 14's then mooved to 195/60 14's on 6" wide rims. For what you are doing I would say 205/50 14's would be the ones - not many available but I know avon make them.
I prefer to squeeze the tyre onto a norrow rim - with the amazon std 4" rim we squeeze on a 195/60 15

I think you are right with strut tops buddy, I've got the bits here to replace them... but not sure I want to replace with stock atm

The stock ones will not solve the problem as they do not have a bearing. My replacments have a bearing so take less force to turn the wheels BTW new std ones are no longer available and those strut tops are a common problem

The djustable bearing mounts are £100 a pair.

Didn't realise you had these now Dai, fair price as even when Volvo had them the standard ones are about £50-60 a pair IIRC
