Tom, you know my luck.
It would get rained on, sleeted on, snowed on, blown off under a lorry and ten hundred flying birds would poop heavily upon it.

I had to remove quite a few mashed insects at the the time

Otherwise, cover the seats with a tarpaulin. Easy!
I'm always lugging stuff onto the roof of my car. You have to, if you like taking bikes on your hols, and with two kids you need the extra space, at least if you're lugging beds and prams along too ...
But I'll never ever hang anything from the rear hatch again. After a holiday with three MTBs on the back a hinge bent and slowly rusted away. It had to be welded back into place.

Sounds like you discovered the formula for maximum mountainbike load over two hatchback hinges there Tom.
Good work.
Thats a staggering amount to get into/onto a 300 though. Did it get a little 'sluggish'?

That's very kind of you Will, but it's anything but mint unfortunately! After 9 years of ungaraged daily driving, it's pretty scratched and battered all round, with patchwork rust repairs, doors beginning to rust from inside out, sun-bleached bumpers etc. But I'm working on it slowly but surely, the front bumpers' already replaced, the rear one to follow soon ...
Here's a pic from better days, back in 2000:
Naturally, it's covered in bikes

I'm guessing it's a...roll cage?
I'll be turning up in a 940 Turbo (although in my defence, it does have a TD04-15G at 20psi fitted...), so no need to feel too loyal... The damn S70 lunched its timing belt on Monday morning.
cheers
James

Might be. Whatever it is, it barely fits in the trailer. Which I still haven't finished putting back together with only one evening left to sort it.

I have a set of universal fit roof bars for cars with gutters (ie 300's etc).
Want me to bring them so you can use them to transport the large 'mystery' item home?
