Possible that your mp3 is set up for headphones only so it only includes certain bass ranges to save power (mine does this but it also has an override for stereo systems that includes all ranges)

should have added the sony to the jvc not replaced it... methinks anyway.

ah but this headunit has an iPod dock so power isnt a problem as such. thing is with CDs it also doesnt play bass through the speakers, only sub and my friend has the same headunit without a sub and found the same issue with it. im going to try a few things with it to see if it makes a difference
